  • Purple Heart (Tradescantia Pallida) or Wandering Jew - A compact slowly spreading evergreen perennial to 10 inches tall by about 2 feet wide with succulent herbaceous purple stems bearing clasping elliptic leaves that are narrowed at the base and tip that are olive green suffused with purple on the upper surface and bright purple below with long sliver hairs along the leaf margins and stems. The interesting new leaves emerge in seemingly opposite pairs that are folded upwards to form fuzzy cup-like wings.

In bright light one may see violet-pink flowers in summer but this plant is more for foliage and seems reluctant to bloom much. Plant in light shade or part sun and water regularly to only occasionally - as with many in the genus these plants are surprisingly drought resistant because of the water stored in the succulent stems.

All of the plants will be shipped bare root.
  • Cool Sun/Light Shade.

    Rick, Well-Drained soil.

    Summer.

    Pinkish White.

*** The size options are represtentative of pots that the plants come in. Sometimes customer may receive multiple plants instead of a large one to make up size.

*** All of our packages are sterilized before leaving the door.
  • We only ship out beautiful, healthy plants! Please track your package and open it immediately upon arrival. If you receive your package and are not satisfied, please message us immediately. Fragile plants such as bearpaw, baby toe, etc. may break or loose a few of their leaves during transport. Please contact us for replacements if your plants are severely damaged. We'll try our best to accommodate you. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grown in, depending on availability or time of year.
  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.

I like how red it is.

The packaging and delivery time was great as usual. The plant is a little wilted, but I haven't questioned it yet. But I am happy.

Attentive

Very nice to work with. Bare root houseplants are new to me. A leafy purple plant was very wilted, but is coming fine, lithops roots look very dry. I’m hoping it’s ok. I think it’s splitting.

Pretty Purple Plant

I bought this based on color alone, but I have no regrets. It's so pretty! However, I discovered a very informative blog post by Succulent Box afterward. Check it out for tips on creating a succulent garden based on more than color. As for this plant, I definitely recommend it!
