  •   Guzmania hybrid red plant originates from Central and South America and belongs to the Bromeliad family, sharing its botanical kinship with unique plants like air plants, pineapples, and Spanish moss. In its native habitat, Guzmanias are epiphytes, meaning they grow upon other plants.

These remarkable plants typically form rosettes of elongated, slender leaves that can showcase a spectrum of colors, ranging from deep green to captivating variegated patterns. The red variety, as its name suggests, is celebrated for its vibrant red bracts, which enshroud the subtle flowers, crafting a striking contrast with the lush green foliage.

Guzmanias have garnered popularity as houseplants due to their manageable care requirements and enduring blossoms. While they traditionally bloom during spring or summer, the right conditions can lead to year-round flowering. What truly distinguishes Guzmanias is their exceptional range of flower colors, making them a preferred choice for those seeking lively and colorful additions to their indoor plant collection.

These plants have a compact growth habit, rendering them ideal for tabletop or indoor displays, with an average height spanning from 12 to 18 inches.

  • Guzmania hybrids thrive in bright, indirect light, favoring settings with filtered sunlight or partial shade while avoiding direct, intense sun exposure.

Guzmania hybrids like to be consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the soil moderately, allowing it to dry slightly between waterings

These plants love well-draining, peat moss-based soil.

Guzmanias love warm and humid conditions, flourishing at indoor temperatures between 65 to 80°F but warrant protection from temperatures dipping below 50°F. Sustaining humidity levels above 50% is pivotal, especially in arid climates or areas with indoor heating.

During the growing season (typically spring and summer), you can nourish your Guzmania with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength, administered around once a month. It's advisable to abstain from fertilization during the dormant winter period.

Guzmania plants pose no significant toxicity risks to either humans or pets. They are delightful choices as beginners and pet-friendly houseplants.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
