- Croton Mammy, or Codiaeum variegatum, is a wonderful choice if you want to add a touch of vibrant colors to your indoor space. Native to Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, and the Western Pacific Ocean Islands, this evergreen shrub has one of the boldest, prettiest colorful foliage in all houseplants.
Croton Mammy can grow up to 3-8 feet in height and has a very interesting growing habit. Its large, leathery leaves are packed tightly and alternatively along the stems. Boasting multiple colors like red, green, yellow, orange, and even black, these long leaves have twists and curls and prominent veins which give them a very distinctive look.
As a Croton, this gorgeous ornamental foliage plan effectively removes common airborne toxins and is a popular air-purifying houseplant for homes and offices.
Mammy Croton may bloom small, yellow, and white flowers with no petals during Autumn.

Croton prefers bright indirect sunlight, and it needs at least 4-6 hours of light daily. Harsh direct sunlight can burn this plant and low light will reduce the variegation in the leaves.
Croton Petra has medium watering needs. Water only when the top 2'' of the soil is dry and drain well after each watering to avoid root rot. Start with watering once a week and monitor the soil to decide on your schedule.
This plant prefers rich soils that can retain moisture but still drain well. You can add some peat moss and perlite to regular houseplant soil to increase drainage.
Croton should be kept in temperatures between 60°F-80°F and a high humidity level (at least 40-60%). Use a humidifier and mist your plant when the weather is dry, especially during winter.
This plant should be fertilized once per month during the growing season (spring/summer) with diluted houseplant fertilizer.
This plant is toxic to humans and animals so keep it out of reach of curious children and pets.
