How we package and ship our succulents

Shipping live plants across the states is not easy. So many things can go wrong with the shipment: loose soil, broken stems, broken pot or even dying plants due to shipping conditions. For succulents in particular, there might even be drastic changes in plant appearance such as discolored leaves and etiolated stems. That’s why we always take great care in our packaging and shipping process to ensure your succulents are delivered to you healthy and well.

PACKAGING AND SHIPPING PROCESS

STEP 1

If the plants are shipped in clay pot or ceramic containers, we will carefully wrap paper around the soil to keep them in place.

OR

If the plants are big or fragile, we will clean off most of the soil around the roots and ship them bareroot to reduce damage in transit. This is especially important for fuzzy succulents such as the Angel Wing Cactus or Echeveria Doris Taylor, because if the soil gets on the leaves, it'd be really hard to completely rinse it out.

OR

If the plants are small or not so fragile, they will be shipped as is.

STEP 2: Wrap 2 layers of bubble wrap around the plants (+containers ) to minimize shipping shock.

STEP 3: Put the plants (+containers) in a sturdy box and fill empty spaces with packing peanuts. These are biodegradable peanuts that can dissolve in water.

STEP 4: Place the packing slip + care instruction cards + ID cards inside the box

STEP 5: Tape the box with branded tape and put the shipping label on top.

To get a clearer picture of how the packages would look like when you receive them, you can see the unboxing video below by Blondie Brand.

While meticulously packaged, the plants might still be unhappy with being in a dark box for a long time. Therefore, some may look slightly dull and wilted. Therefore, right after you receive the package, open it immediately. Carefully and gently remove the packing materials. Don't put the plants in sunlight immediately. These are greenhouse grown succulents, so they need to get acclimated to sunlight gradually. Keep them in shade or indirect sunlight, and slowly introduce them to direct sunlight. Give the plants a few days to recover, then repot if necessary and start watering. If you receive the plants bare root, immediately pot them in succulent and cactus soil mix, then follow the same instructions above. The plants should perk up after getting a good soak from watering. Mealybugs are common pests that can rapidly multiply and weaken plants by feeding on their sap, causing yellowing, wilting, and even plant death if left untreated. These soft-bodied insects are challenging to eradicate due to their protective wax coating, hidden locations in plant crevices, rapid reproduction, and mutualistic relationship with ants. Effective control methods include physical removal, natural remedies like neem oil, chemical treatments, predatory insects, traps, beneficial fungi, and diatomaceous earth. Regular inspection, isolation of new plants, soil replacement, and eco-friendly treatments are key to preventing and managing mealybug infestations.
