Gollum Jade, also known as Crassula Ovata or "Money Plant", is a small shrubby succulent that can grow up to 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide. It has fascinating green finger-like leaves with a red circle on the tips and can produce small pinkish-white star-shaped flowers during late fall and early winter.
While Gollum Jade is considered to be a symbol of good luck, you don't need luck in taking care of them, as they don't require much effort and attention just to keep them alive and pretty. A Gollum Jade that's well-taken care of can be really beautiful, especially when added to your outdoor garden or inside your home in a nice-looking container.
SUNLIGHT
When it comes to lighting, Crassula Ovata loves to get at least 4 hours of direct morning sunlight per day and hates the scorching sun in the afternoon. So if yellow or brown spots start to appear, transfer them somewhere with less sun or covering them with some cloth or umbrella to keep them safe from the intense heat and prevent them from getting sunburn.
Gollum Jades can be grown either in a pot indoors or in a garden, as long as they get enough light for them to grow happily but not too much to cause them stress. To be specific, indoor Jade plants need to be placed near a windowsill to maintain the vibrancy of their color. But when growing them outdoors, the Jade plant needs to be introduced slowly to full sun to prevent problems like sunburn, before leaving them together with your other succulents.
WATERING
Like many other succulents, Crassula Ovata can be quite sensitive when it comes to water. The only difference is, they need less watering compared to others. So overwatering will most likely be the problem with this plant. To avoid killing them due to too much water, make sure to always check the soil first before giving it a drink by sticking your finger 1-inch into it. If you feel that the soil is completely dry, then it's time for watering. Otherwise, don't water it. Using a soil moisture meter will be a big help you determine when to water your Gollum Jade.

When it’s time to water your Gollum Jade, usage of filtered or distilled water is highly recommended as they can be quite sensitive to salts in tap water. Also, avoid splashing or wetting their leaves. This may cause them to rot in humid conditions.
DORMANCY

During fall and winter, Gollum Jade goes dormant. This causes them to slow down or to entirely pause their growth. So make sure to cut back on the watering as they wouldn't need much compared to the other season (spring and summer). To make it simple, it's ideal to only water them once or twice all throughout their dormancy period or waits for the soil to fully dry before giving it another drink.
PROPAGATION
Once your Gollum Jade is mature, it is now ready to be propagated. Though this can be done from leaves, it is easier and has a higher chance of success when propagating your Gollum jade through stem cuttings.

The process of propagating your Gollum Jade is easy. Simply get a stem cutting from a healthy-looking plant with plump leaves and allow it to dry for 2-3 days before sticking it in a well-draining potting mix. Make sure to keep them away from direct sunlight and water only when the soil feels dry until your cutting is fully rooted.
