Our February box featuring Woolly Senecio, Cotyledon Orbiculata Pigs Ear, Moonstone Pachyphytum, Ruby Necklace, and Tillandsia Brachycaulos.
1. Woolly Senecio Scaposus
Senecio Scaposus, commonly known as Woolly Senecio, The Silver Spider, or Silver Coral, is a stemless small succulent of up to 4 inches (10 cm) long. Its leaves are fleshy, spike-shaped and covered with a powdery green white layer. This coating serves as a protecting cover for the plant to reflect sunlight and avoid overheating or sunburn; it may shed as the plant ages.
Woolly Senecio produces bright yellow daisy-like flowers in the summer.
Full sun to Light shade.
Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch, then let drain completely. Reduce watering to a minimum in the winter.
Porous and well-drained potting soil. Replenish nutrients in the soil every now and then.
Feed annually but lightly because too much fertilizer can cause etiolation.
You can propagate Senecio Scaposus from seed or stem cuttings. Warm temperature at 55˚F / 13˚C and constant moisture are ideal for their seeds to germinate. Propagation from cuttings is easier and quicker. You should cut during the growing season from early spring to fall and let them root in sandy soil.
2. Cotyledon Orbiculata (Pigs Ear)
Cotyledon Orbiculata (Pigs Ear) is able to reach around 60 cm (24″) tall. The plant is a hardy succulent with fleshy, oval, red-rimmed leaves that resemble a pig’s ear.
The plant flowers it is known to produce red to orange flower that grow from the top of a long stem.
It prefers a sunny location, but tolerates partial shade
Porous soil with adequate drainage.
Water the plant when the soil is dry, then let the soil dry before watering again. In its natural environment, the plant needs very little water.
3. Moonstone Pachyphytum
Pachyphytum Oviferum is a very rare and attractive succulent with pinkish chubby pebble-like leaves covered with a thin layer of white powder. It's highly sought after because many people love their lovely color and unique appearance.
In winter to early spring, it produces dark pink bell-shaped flowers.
Partial shade to full sun.
Avoid letting water sit for too long in the rosette to prevent rot and fungal diseases.
Well-draining soil.
Generally non-toxic to humans and animals.
4. Ruby Necklace
Othonna capensis ‘Ruby Necklace’ is a trailing succulent with multiple purple pink stems and long narrow bean-shaped leaves. The beans have beautiful vibrant colors of green, purple, or deep red. The more light they receives, the more red they become. The delicate shape and red colors of these leaves are similar to precious gem pendants on necklaces, giving it the name 'Ruby Necklace'.
The plant displays little yellow daisy like flowers on a long reddish stalk all year round.
Full sun. Filtered sunlight. Partial shade in the summer.

5. Tillandsia Brachycaulos
Tillandsia Brachycaulos is a stunning air plant that you will want to display in your collection. Featuring wide, thick, strong leaves that are an incredible and vibrant green, the Tillandsia Brachycaulos resembles the top to a pineapple! It will produce many layers of strong leaves that transition as it grows. It will also develop luscious red and pink hues when the plant blooms. The flowers themselves are a beautiful purple with slight yellow coloring.
Tillandsia Brachycaulos does well indoors but likes bright, indirect light. Keep this plant away from direct sunlight as this will cause the plant to develop burn marks.
No soil is needed. Sand, sea glass, rocks, pebbles & bark chip can be used instead of soil.
Water-loving. Mist 3-4 times a week or soak twice a week.
