  •   Zamioculcas Zamiifolia 'Zenzi', also called Dwarf ZZ Plant, is a compact cultivar of the classic ZZ plant in the family Araceae, native to eastern Africa. It grows naturally in dry woodland and grassland regions of countries like Kenya and Tanzania, where it survives seasonal drought by storing water in its thick rhizomes.

'Zenzi' stays noticeably smaller than the standard ZZ, typically reaching 12 to 18 inches tall. The leaves are small, oval, and deeply curved inward, forming tightly packed arching stems with glossy dark green foliage. The leaflets layer closely together along each stem, giving the plant a denser, more clustered appearance than its parent species.

Like the standard ZZ plant, 'Zenzi' rarely flowers indoors and no reliable bloom information is confirmed for this cultivar under typical household conditions. It is, however, a confirmed air-purifying plant that filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins from the surrounding air. Rotate it occasionally so all sides receive even light exposure, since growth can lean toward the light source over time.

You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it handles the dry heated air common in homes with central heating or air conditioning running through winter. Keep 'Zenzi' away from direct airflow from AC vents or heaters, as that direct draft affects the leaves. Move it outside for summer in a sheltered spot, and bring it back indoors before autumn temperatures drop. Cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat the plant, and the sap can cause skin or paw irritation on contact, so a high shelf keeps it out of reach of both pets and small children.

  •   Zamioculcas Zamiifolia 'Zenzi' (Dwarf ZZ Plant) grows well under bright indirect light and handles medium light, including office fluorescent or LED setups. Avoid south-facing windows where direct sun can scorch the leaves.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry out fully between waterings. Reduce to once every three to four weeks in winter.

'Zenzi' does best in a well-draining mix, such as a blend of standard potting soil with perlite or coarse sand. Good drainage prevents the rhizomes from sitting in moisture.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors. It should not be exposed to temperatures below 45°F, and direct cold drafts from windows or vents will affect the foliage.

'Zenzi' is a slow grower, typically putting out a few new stems per year under normal indoor conditions. Feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, where temperatures stay reliably above 25°F through winter. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, California, Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia, Hawaii, and South Carolina. It can move outside for summer in cooler zones as long as it comes back indoors before the first frost.
  • Q: How often should I water Zamioculcas Zamiifolia 'Zenzi' (Dwarf ZZ Plant)?
A: Check the soil before watering. If it still feels damp a few inches down, wait. The rhizomes store water, so the soil should be completely dry before the next watering.

Q: How much light does this plant need, and which window works best?
A: Zamioculcas Zamiifolia 'Zenzi' (Dwarf ZZ Plant) does well a few feet back from an east- or north-facing window. A south-facing window can scorch the leaves unless it is set well away from the glass.

Q: Is 'Zenzi' safe around cats and dogs?
A: Cats and dogs shouldn't be left to nibble or eat the plant. The sap can also cause irritation to skin and paws on contact, so keep it on a high shelf.

Q: How big does this plant get?
A: 'Zenzi' stays compact, typically reaching 12 to 18 inches in height and spread. Growth is slow, so it holds a small footprint for years without needing to be repotted often.

Q: Can Dwarf ZZ Plant survive while I'm traveling?
A: It wilts slightly when the soil has been dry for an extended period, but the rhizomes hold enough water to last through about ten days without any watering.

Q: Does this plant actually clean the air indoors?
A: Dwarf ZZ Plant filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor environments. It also grows under office LED lighting, so it works in rooms that don't get much natural light.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
