The plant grows as a single or branching column with a diameter of 2–3 inches and vertical ridges running along its body. It features small areoles with fine spines arranged in neat rows along the stem, giving it a structured, geometric appearance. The epidermis remains forest green throughout its life, and the stem hardens slightly as it matures.
Trichocereus bridgesii produces white or pale yellow flowers that bloom in late spring and early summer, typically opening at night. The flowers are tubular and fragrant, appearing near the top of mature stems. In indoor conditions, flowering occurs less frequently than in outdoor cultivation and requires several years of growth to begin.
It prefers temperatures between 50–75°F and tolerates brief dips near freezing; avoid cold drafts from AC or heaters.

Q: How often should I water Trichocereus bridgesii?
A: Every 10–14 days during growing season, letting soil dry completely between waterings. In winter, reduce to once a month.
Q: Does it need a lot of light indoors?
A: Trichocereus bridgesii needs direct sun or bright indirect light. South-facing windows may cause scorching, so rotate it regularly for even growth.
Q: Will Trichocereus bridgesii flower indoors?
A: Flowering is possible but takes several years and occurs less often indoors than outdoors. White or pale yellow flowers bloom in late spring and early summer.
Q: Is it safe around pets and children?
A: No. Trichocereus bridgesii should be kept on a high shelf out of reach of pets and small children, as it is dangerous if ingested.
Q: Can I grow Penis Cactus outside?
A: Move it outdoors during summer and cover it from rain. It grows year-round outside in USDA zones 10–11 (southern California, Arizona, southern Florida, Hawaii, parts of Texas).
Q: How do I propagate Penis Cactus?
A: Cuttings taken in spring or summer root in fast-draining soil within 3–4 weeks. Let cuts dry for 24 hours before planting.
