  •   Mammillaria Gracilis Fragilis, also called Thimble Cactus, is a clustering cactus native to the highlands of central Mexico, where it grows among rocky, well-drained terrain. Part of the Mammillaria genus, it adapts to container life indoors or outdoors and is suitable for beginner growers.

Tight, upright clusters of small cylindrical stems rise from the base, each covered in neat white spines against forest green skin. The individual offsets are fragile and detach with minimal disturbance, which gives this cactus its character. Over time, a single plant gradually fills a pot with dozens of thimble-shaped stems, creating a dense display across 2 to 4 inches in height.

Small creamy-white to soft yellow flowers appear in a ring around the tops of the stems, typically in late winter through spring. The plant requires a nighttime temperature drop during cooler months to trigger blooming, so positioning it near a cool window in autumn and winter encourages flowering.

It tolerates drought effortlessly and adapts to dry heated indoor air without stress. Move it outside in summer to soak up full sun and improve growth. Rotate the pot occasionally for even development all around, and keep it protected from rain to prevent rot. Space it on a high shelf away from small children and curious pets, as the spines can cause minor skin or paw irritation, though the plant itself is non-toxic.

  •   Thimble Cactus - Mammillaria gracilis fragilis grows in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun with at least 4-6 hours of bright light daily.

Water it every 2-3 weeks in spring and summer, then cut back to once a month or less in fall and winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Mammillaria Gracilis Fragilis does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix, ideally 50% cactus soil and 50% coarse perlite or grit.

It prefers temperatures between 50-95°F and should stay above 25°F to avoid cold damage.

Mammillaria Gracilis Fragilis is a slow grower that benefits from a light balanced cactus fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11 and tolerates brief dips to around 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and New Mexico, as well as coastal Oregon. In cooler regions like North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, and parts of the Pacific Northwest, it grows best in containers that move indoors when temperatures drop in late autumn.
  • Q: How often should I water Thimble Cactus - Mammillaria gracilis fragilis?
A: Check the soil moisture by sticking your finger an inch deep; water only when it feels bone-dry. In spring and summer this typically means every 2-3 weeks, but in fall and winter the interval stretches to once monthly or longer depending on your indoor heating and humidity.

Q: Is this plant safe around cats and dogs?
A: Thimble Cactus - Mammillaria gracilis fragilis is non-toxic, though the spines can cause minor paw or skin irritation on contact. Keep it on a high shelf out of reach of pets and small children.

Q: How fast does Mammillaria Gracilis Fragilis grow?
A: It multiplies by producing clusters of small offsets over time, creating dozens of stems in a single pot over several years.

Q: What happens if I give it too little light?
A: Mammillaria Gracilis Fragilis will stretch and weaken without enough brightness. Position it in a south or east-facing window indoors, or move it outside in summer to maintain compact, sturdy growth.

Q: Can Thimble Cactus bloom indoors?
A: Yes, it blooms indoors when given a cool nighttime temperature drop in autumn and winter, ideally near a cool window. Small creamy-white flowers appear in a ring around the stem tops in late winter or spring.

Q: How do I propagate offsets from Thimble Cactus?
A: The offsets detach very easily on their own or with gentle handling. Let a removed offset callous for a day or two, then set it on dry cactus mix and it will root within a few weeks.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
