Place the terrarium in a spot that receives bright, indirect light for at least four to six hours daily. A south- or east-facing windowsill is ideal. Avoid intense afternoon sun directly through glass, as the enclosed vessel can amplify heat and stress the plants. If natural light is limited, a grow light set to a 12-hour cycle works well as a supplement.
Water sparingly, as terrariums retain moisture longer than open pots. Allow the growing medium to dry out completely between waterings, then add a small amount of water directed at the base of the plants rather than over the leaves. In most indoor environments, watering every two to three weeks is sufficient. Overwatering is the most common issue with enclosed succulent arrangements, so err on the dry side.
The succulents in this arrangement thrive in typical indoor temperatures between 60°F and 80°F (15°C to 27°C). Keep the terrarium away from cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and heating units, as sudden temperature swings can stress the plants. Average household humidity is generally fine, since succulents prefer drier air over humid conditions.
Feed the terrarium once in spring and once in early summer using a balanced, liquid succulent fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength. Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when the plants are in a natural resting period. Because nutrients accumulate more readily in a closed container, less is more when it comes to feeding this arrangement.
