  •   Euphorbia Lactea 'Ghost', also called Ghost Cactus, is a rare collector succulent from the Euphorbia genus, native to tropical Asia and naturalized across parts of India and Sri Lanka. It grows wild in dry, rocky terrain where heat and drought dominate the landscape. This succulent captivates collectors worldwide for its otherworldly pale appearance and exceptional drought tolerance.

'Ghost' grows upright in a bold candelabra form, producing ribbed stems in silvery-white to soft cream tones caused by minimal chlorophyll in the tissue. Dark spines line the ridges, creating stark contrast against the luminous stems. It builds height and structure over time, developing a sculptural silhouette.

Mature specimens produce tiny, inconspicuous blooms along the stem edges under ideal conditions, though flowering indoors is rare and typically requires a noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures. It releases oxygen at night, functioning as a working addition to bedrooms and living spaces.

This bright light succulent needs a heavy, stable pot due to its deep root system and sensitivity to being moved, so choose its permanent spot carefully. Move it outside to a warm, sheltered location during summer months, but provide cover from rain to protect the pale stems from excess moisture. It can scorch in intense south-facing windows, so rotate it regularly for even, balanced growth. Keep it well out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children, as the milky sap causes skin and paw irritation.

  •   Euphorbia Lactea Ghost Cactus grows well in bright indirect light to full sun but may scorch in intense south-facing windows.

Water it deeply every two to three weeks in summer, reducing to once monthly or less in winter. Check the soil before watering each time.

'Ghost' does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix that prevents moisture from sitting around the roots.

It prefers temperatures between 60–90°F and should never be exposed to frost or temperatures below 50°F.

'Ghost' is a slow to moderate grower, adding just a few inches per year, and benefits from diluted cactus fertilizer applied once or twice during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10–11, tolerating minimum temperatures around 35–40°F before cold becomes damaging. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, southern Florida, and the southernmost tips of California and Texas. It can move outside for summer in Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and along the mild Oregon coast, then come inside before temperatures drop in autumn.
  • Q: How often should I water Euphorbia Lactea Ghost Cactus?
A: Every two to three weeks in warm months, cutting back to once a month or less in winter. Slight stem wrinkling or wilting indicates the soil has dried out.

Q: Can I grow this plant outdoors?
A: Euphorbia Lactea Ghost Cactus can summer outdoors in warm climates but needs a sheltered spot away from rain. Bring it inside if nighttime temperatures drop below 50°F.

Q: How much light does 'Ghost' need?
A: It thrives in bright indirect light to full sun and needs rotating regularly for even growth. Avoid prolonged direct south-window exposure, which scorches the pale stems.

Q: Is this plant safe around pets?
A: 'Ghost' is toxic to cats and dogs. The milky sap causes skin and paw irritation, so keep it on a high shelf out of reach.

Q: How fast does Ghost Cactus grow?
A: It adds just a few inches per year under good conditions. The gradual development of its upright form means mature specimens take years to achieve their full sculptural height.

Q: Why is this succulent considered rare?
A: Ghost Cactus has very low chlorophyll in the ghost form, causing the near-white coloration and making propagation and growth slower than standard green varieties. That scarcity, combined with its architectural form, keeps demand high among serious plant collectors.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
