  •   Snake Plant Sansevieria Gold Flame, also called the gold flame snake plant, is a rare variegated cultivar of Sansevieria trifasciata, a member of the Asparagaceae family native to tropical West Africa. It grows naturally in rocky, arid regions and has adapted to low-water, low-light conditions over centuries.

The leaves are broad, upright, and sword-shaped, growing in a tight rosette with deep green centers edged in bright golden-yellow margins. Each leaf has subtle horizontal banding across the green zone, a trait common to sansevieria trifasciata cultivars. Gold Flame can reach up to 24 to 36 inches tall, and the golden margins stay consistent through the growing season without fading in standard indoor light.

Mature specimens occasionally produce a tall flower spike with small, tubular, pale greenish-white blooms that carry a faint sweet fragrance, typically appearing in late winter or early spring when the plant has been slightly root-bound. Blooms are infrequent indoors. Gold Flame also purifies indoor air, filtering formaldehyde and other airborne toxins, and releases oxygen at night rather than during the day.

You can leave it up to ten days without water, which covers travel or a longer absence without arranging plant care. Move it outside in summer, but place it under an overhang or covered patio so it stays out of direct rain. It grows well under standard office LED lighting, so a desk or shelf without a nearby window works fine. Because it is a rare variegated snake plant, Gold Flame appeals to collectors of unusual sansevieria. Keep it on a high shelf or another elevated surface out of reach of pets and small children, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation, and the plant should not be nibbled or eaten by cats, dogs, or toddlers.

  •   Snake Plant Sansevieria Gold Flame tolerates low light but grows best in bright indirect light away from direct afternoon sun.

It needs water every 10 to 14 days in spring and summer, and every 3 to 4 weeks in winter.

Gold Flame does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix with added perlite for extra drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 85°F and should stay away from air conditioning vents and heating units.

Gold Flame is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month in spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 12, tolerating brief dips down to around 50°F before cold damage appears. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, and Georgia. It also grows outdoors in Nevada, New Mexico, South Carolina, and parts of coastal North Carolina where winters stay mild.
  • Q: Is Snake Plant Sansevieria Gold Flame safe for pets and children?
A: Cats and dogs should not be left to nibble or eat the plant, as ingestion can cause digestive upset, and the sap can irritate skin and paws. Keep it on a high shelf away from small children as well.

Q: How much light does this plant actually need near a window?
A: Snake Plant Sansevieria Gold Flame does well a few feet back from an east or north-facing window. A south or west window works if the pot sits back from the glass, as direct afternoon sun can scorch the golden leaf margins.

Q: How do I know when Gold Flame needs water?
A: The leaves will start to look very slightly soft or bend faintly at the base when the soil has been dry for a while. Push a finger two inches into the soil — if it still feels damp, wait a few more days before watering.

Q: What happens if I overwater this plant?
A: Gold Flame is prone to root rot if the soil stays wet too long. The base of the leaves may turn yellow or mushy at the soil line, which usually means the roots have already been sitting in standing water.

Q: Can Gold Flame go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 55°F. Place it in a covered spot that blocks rain, since waterlogged soil outdoors causes rot faster than it does indoors.

Q: How big does this plant get?
A: Gold Flame typically reaches 24 to 36 inches tall indoors, spreading slowly into a cluster of upright leaves over several years. Deep roots develop as it matures, so a heavy pot helps keep it stable.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
