  •   Sempervivum 'Sopa' is a rare cold hardy succulent belonging to the houseleek family, native to the mountainous regions of Europe where it naturally grows in rocky alpine conditions. This drought tolerant rosette succulent has adapted to harsh mountain climates, making it an exceptional choice for collectors seeking hardy outdoor plants.

Sempervivum 'Sopa' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with thick, fleshy leaves that display stunning color variations throughout the seasons. The rosettes cluster together in a classic hens and chicks growth pattern, creating dense mats of architectural beauty. Each rosette showcases the distinctive sempervivum structure with pointed leaf tips and smooth, waxy surfaces that help retain moisture in challenging conditions.

Sempervivum 'Sopa' produces tall flower spikes with star-shaped blooms during summer months, typically in shades of pink or white. After flowering, the main rosette completes its lifecycle while numerous offsets continue the colony. This rare sempervivum tolerates dry heated air indoors and handles balcony wind and rain exceptionally well when grown outdoors.

Sempervivum 'Sopa' excels as both a houseplant and garden specimen, thriving in rock gardens, containers, and alpine collections. This frost resistant plant can move outside for summer and stay outdoors through autumn, making it perfect for year-round outdoor cultivation. Plant collectors prize this rare houseleek for its easy care nature and ability to survive 10-day trips alone. This plant is pet friendly, adding to its appeal for households with cats and dogs.

  •   Sempervivum 'Sopa' thrives in partial sun to full sun but scorches in direct south-facing windows indoors.

Sempervivum 'Sopa' needs watering every 7-10 days during growing season, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Sempervivum 'Sopa' requires well-draining soil mix with added perlite, sand, or pumice for optimal drainage.

Sempervivum 'Sopa' tolerates temperatures from 20-85°F (-7 to 29°C) and survives frost down to 10°F (-12°C).

Sempervivum 'Sopa' grows slowly and rarely needs fertilizer, producing offsets steadily throughout the growing season.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
