  •   Sempervivum heuffelii 'Pollyanna' is a rare cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the rocky mountain regions of southeastern Europe. This alpine succulent has evolved to grow in rugged, well-drained terrain and ranks among the toughest drought tolerant succulents available to growers today.

Pollyanna forms tight, symmetrical rosettes in lime green with warm golden-yellow tones that deepen with sun exposure and seasonal temperature shifts. The fleshy, pointed leaves have a smooth texture and crisp geometric structure, and over time it clusters into a dense spreading mat where each rosette maintains its form.

When mature rosettes bloom in summer, they send up a sturdy central stalk topped with small star-shaped flowers typical of the genus, after which the flowering rosette completes its lifecycle and the surrounding offsets continue the colony. A nighttime temperature drop can encourage flowering, making outdoor placement especially beneficial during the warmer months.

Pollyanna suits rock gardens, alpine troughs, container arrangements, and exposed balcony displays equally well. It handles balcony wind and rain without trouble and can stay outdoors through autumn, performing as a year-round plant in suitable climates. Individual rosettes typically reach two to four inches in diameter. You can propagate it easily by detaching the offsets that form naturally around the mother rosette and replanting them in well-draining soil with no special tools or rooting hormone required.

  •   Sempervivum heuffelii 'Pollyanna' grows well in full sun to partial sun, needing at least four to six hours of direct sun daily for the best color.

Water it deeply but infrequently, roughly every ten to fourteen days in summer and even less in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Pollyanna does best in fast-draining gritty mix, such as a blend of coarse sand, perlite, and standard succulent or cactus soil.

It tolerates a wide range from around 5°F up to 90°F, with strong frost tolerance across most temperate climates.

Pollyanna is a slow to moderate grower that rarely needs fertilizing, though a light diluted feed in early spring can support healthy clustering.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, tolerating frost down to approximately 30°F at the colder end of that range. It grows outdoors year-round in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
