    •   Sempervivum 'Bernstein' is a cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of Europe and Asia Minor. This classic hens and chicks houseleek has endured harsh alpine conditions for centuries, growing in rocky, well-drained soils where few other plants survive.

        'Bernstein' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes in warm amber-bronze to golden tones, with fleshy pointed leaves that deepen in color under full sun. The mother rosette steadily produces clusters of smaller offsets, creating a spreading mat across containers, rock gardens, or troughs.

        Mature rosettes send up tall flower stalks topped with star-shaped blooms in summer before that rosette completes its life cycle. The surrounding offsets continue growing, so the plant remains established without any extra effort.

        'Bernstein' handles balcony wind and rain with ease, stays outdoors through autumn, and is frost tolerant enough that there is no rush to bring it inside when temperatures drop. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It tolerates the dry heated air of indoor spaces and is pet friendly, so it grows well on a sunny windowsill, outdoor container, or rock garden alike.
