'Aureum' has forest green leaves that shift to golden and white tones in bright light, creating a warm, multicolored rosette. The leaves are thick and fleshy, arranged in a tight, compact form that rarely exceeds a few inches across. Each mature rosette produces offsets around its base, building a clustering habit over time.
In summer, mature rosettes send up flowering stems topped with small, star-shaped flowers in shades of pale yellow or pink. The bloom season is brief, and individual rosettes flower only once before gradually fading. It shows dramatic seasonal color shifts, deepening from green to golden and burgundy as temperatures drop in autumn and winter.
It prefers temperatures between 50-80°F and handles dry heated air without harm indoors.

Q: How often should I water Sempervivum 'Aureum'?
A: During spring and summer when the soil feels dry, check it every 10-14 days. In fall and winter, water once monthly or less. Leaves become slightly soft or less firm when the soil dries completely.
Q: Is it safe around pets?
A: Sempervivum 'Aureum' is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.
Q: Does 'Aureum' need direct sun?
A: Direct sun for at least 6 hours daily produces the best color shift from green to golden and white tones. It tolerates partial sun but remains more green without intense light.
Q: Can it survive a cold winter outdoors?
A: 'Aureum' tolerates hard frosts below 10°F and is hardy in USDA zones 3-11, so it survives winter outdoors across most of the continental United States once established.
Q: How do I propagate 'Aureum'?
A: Detach the small offset rosettes that form around the base and press them into dry soil; they root easily in 2-3 weeks.
Q: Does this plant need special soil?
A: Fast-draining cactus or succulent mix works best; standard potting soil tends to retain too much moisture.
