The plant forms tight, low-growing rosettes that clump together into dense mats of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves. Foliage ranges from silvery-green and blue-gray to purple and pink, with colors intensifying under bright light and cooler temperatures, and the leaves are often dusted with a chalky white powdery coating called farina.
Small star-shaped yellow flowers bloom on short upright stems in late spring to early summer, typically appearing in clusters. A drop in night temperatures during spring helps trigger blooming, so moving it outdoors or placing it near a cooler window encourages flowering. It produces pollen and is pet-friendly, safe for cats and dogs.
Sedum Spathulifolium works well in rock gardens, container arrangements, green roofs, and sunny windowsills. It tolerates dry heated indoor air and handles drafty spots better than most succulents.
