  •   Sedum palmeri, also called Palmer's Sedum, is a trailing succulent native to the mountains of northeastern Mexico. It belongs to the Sedum genus within the Crassulaceae family, growing in rocky, well-drained terrain with abundant light. It adapts to indoor containers, hanging baskets, and outdoor rock gardens.

Sedum Palmeri has trailing stems lined with relatively large rosettes of fleshy, blue-gray leaves coated in a subtle powdery finish. The leaves are spoon-shaped and smooth, storing water efficiently throughout dry periods. As the stems elongate, they naturally cascade downward, creating a flowing, spreading form that distinguishes it from compact rosette types.

It blooms in late winter to early spring, producing clusters of small, star-shaped yellow flowers at the tips of the trailing stems. Flowering is fairly consistent and can be encouraged by allowing nighttime temperatures to drop slightly.

Sedum Palmeri tolerates dry heated air and drafty spots. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is pet-safe for cats, dogs, and horses. Move it outside in summer and it handles balcony wind and fresh air without trouble. Propagation is straightforward from stem cuttings or individual leaves; let cut ends callous for a day or two, then place on well-draining soil and mist lightly until roots develop.

  •   Sedum palmeri grows well in bright indirect light but adapts to low light; rotate the pot every few weeks for even growth.

Water it every 10-14 days during spring and summer, reducing to once monthly in fall and winter, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

Sedum Palmeri does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix blended with extra perlite to prevent root rot.

It tolerates temperatures from 0°F to 40°F and shows frost tolerance unusual for a succulent, though protection from prolonged hard freezes is wise.

Sedum Palmeri grows at a moderate pace and benefits from diluted balanced fertilizer applied once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 7a through 10b, tolerating frost down to around 0°F with good drainage. It grows outdoors across the South and Southeast in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Florida. It grows throughout much of the West and Southwest, including California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon, and Washington, as well as Hawaii, and performs reliably in mid-Atlantic states like Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.
  • Q: How much light does Sedum palmeri need indoors?
A: Bright indirect light produces the fullest growth, but it adapts to lower light in most rooms; rotate every few weeks to prevent the stems from leaning toward the light source.

Q: Is this succulent safe for homes with pets?
A: Sedum palmeri is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses, making it a safe choice for pet-owning households.

Q: Can Sedum Palmeri go in a hanging basket?
A: Yes, trailing stems and cascading rosettes make it ideal for hanging baskets where the form can extend freely over the edges.

Q: How long can this plant survive without water?
A: Water-storing leaves allow Sedum Palmeri to endure extended periods between waterings, but it performs best on a consistent 10-14 day cycle during the growing season.

Q: Does Palmer's Sedum flower reliably indoors?
A: It blooms in late winter to early spring if given cool nighttime temperatures, though plants in warm indoor spaces may skip flowering.

Q: How do I multiply this succulent?
A: Palmer's Sedum propagates easily from stem cuttings or individual leaves; let the cut end dry for a day or two, then place on well-draining soil and mist lightly until roots emerge.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
