  •   Philodendron 'Marble Pink Princess' (Philodendron erubescens) is a rare variegated cultivar in the Araceae family, originating from the tropical rainforests of Colombia. It grows as a climbing vine in its natural habitat, where filtered light filters through a dense forest canopy.

Each leaf is heart-shaped and glossy, patterned with irregular splashes of pink, cream, and deep green across a dark burgundy-green base. The variegation appears in marbled sweeps rather than uniform patches, and no two leaves carry the same pattern. New growth often emerges with a darker flush before the pink and cream tones develop. As a climbing vine, it puts out aerial roots along the stem that grip a moss pole or trellis as it ascends.

In indoor conditions, 'Marble Pink Princess' rarely flowers, and bloom information for this cultivar is not reliably documented. It earns its collector status through its foliage alone. The plant is considered a rare find in the variegated philodendron world, and pink variegated plant enthusiasts often seek it out specifically for the unpredictability of each leaf's pattern.

Rotating the pot every few weeks keeps growth even on all sides. 'Marble Pink Princess' thrives near a kitchen, where ambient moisture from cooking and washing stays naturally higher. Keep it away from heating vents and air conditioning units, and avoid moving it between rooms frequently once it has settled. It purifies indoor air and filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins. Cats, dogs, and other pets should not be left to nibble or eat the plant, and the sap can cause skin and paw irritation on contact. Keep it on a high shelf or in a spot out of reach of both pets and small children.

  •   Philodendron 'Marble Pink Princess' thrives in bright indirect light, such as a north- or east-facing window.

It needs watering every seven to ten days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between sessions.

'Marble Pink Princess' does best in a chunky, well-draining mix of perlite, bark, and peat or coco coir.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should not drop below 55°F at any point.

'Marble Pink Princess' is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 through 12, where frost is not a concern and outdoor temperatures stay reliably above 55°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, and the southernmost parts of California and Texas. It can move outside for summer in zones 9 and below, brought back indoors before nighttime temperatures approach 55°F.
  • Q: How much humidity does Philodendron 'Marble Pink Princess' need to thrive indoors?
A: It needs humidity above 60% consistently. A pebble tray filled with water, a humidifier nearby, or placement in a kitchen all help maintain that level.

Q: Is this plant safe around cats and dogs?
A: Philodendron 'Marble Pink Princess' should be kept out of reach of cats and dogs. The sap can irritate paws and skin on contact, and the plant should not be eaten.

Q: Can 'Marble Pink Princess' grow under office lighting?
A: It can sustain itself under bright LED office lighting, though the variegation develops more fully with natural indirect light from a window nearby.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: 'Marble Pink Princess' wilts slightly and the leaves lose a little firmness when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil before watering rather than following a fixed schedule in winter.

Q: Does 'Marble Pink Princess' scorch easily near windows?
A: South-facing windows push light intensity beyond what it tolerates, and yellow or brown patches appear on the leaf surface within days of direct exposure.

Q: How do I encourage even growth on this plant?
A: Rotate 'Marble Pink Princess' a quarter turn every two to three weeks so each side receives equal light exposure, preventing the stems from leaning and growing unevenly toward the light source.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
