  •   Pachyphytum Compactum, also called Little Jewel, is a drought-tolerant succulent in the Crassulaceae family native to the rocky, arid hillsides of Mexico. It forms tight, symmetrical rosettes and grows well in the same lean, fast-draining conditions that define classic succulent growing.

Thick, waxy leaves taper to blunt points, giving the plant a jewel-like precision. The foliage ranges from blue-green to silvery with a soft powdery coating, and leaf tips often blush purple or pink under bright light. Its clumping growth habit means a single plant gradually becomes a cluster, creating a compact mound of color over time.

Pinkish-red to coral bell-shaped flowers appear on slender stalks from late winter through spring, typically triggered by cooler night temperatures. If kept warm year-round, blooms may be less frequent or absent.

Pachyphytum Compactum works in sunny windowsills, dish gardens, patio containers, and outdoor summer displays. It is pet-friendly, safe around cats and dogs. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Pachyphytum compactum - Little Jewel grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, but may scorch in intense south-facing windows without gradual acclimation.

Water it every 10-14 days in summer and every 3-4 weeks in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Pachyphytum Compactum performs best in a gritty, well-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with 30-50% perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 60-80°F and should be protected from frost, as it is not cold-hardy below 30°F.

Pachyphytum Compactum is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a diluted balanced succulent fertilizer once monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-11, tolerating minimum temperatures around 30-35°F before cold damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round across much of Florida, Hawaii, and southern California, as well as warm pockets of Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, and coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Parts of Nevada, Alabama, Mississippi, and sheltered coastal regions of Oregon also fall within or near these zones.
  • Q: How often should I water Pachyphytum compactum - Little Jewel?
A: Check the soil moisture before watering. Stick your finger an inch into the soil; if any moisture remains, wait another few days. In winter, extend the interval to every 3-4 weeks as growth slows.

Q: Is this succulent safe for homes with pets?
A: Pachyphytum compactum - Little Jewel is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What light conditions does Pachyphytum Compactum need indoors?
A: A bright spot with partial to full sun works best, such as an east or west-facing window. Rotate the pot regularly to keep the rosette growing evenly.

Q: Can I move this plant outside in summer?
A: Move Pachyphytum Compactum outside in summer to a bright, sheltered spot. Protect it from heavy rain and bring it back inside before temperatures drop in autumn.

Q: How do I propagate Little Jewel?
A: It propagates easily from leaf cuttings or offsets pulled from the base of the clump. Allow cut ends to callous for a day or two before placing on dry, well-draining succulent mix.

Q: Is this a good plant for beginner gardeners?
A: Little Jewel needs water only when soil dries out completely and tolerates a range of bright indoor locations. It can survive extended periods between waterings.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
