  •   Oyster 'Moses in the Cradle', also called Oyster Plant, is a tropical houseplant from Central America and the Caribbean. This herbaceous evergreen belongs to the Commelinaceae family and is cultivated indoors for its multicolored foliage that shifts with light conditions.

The leaves form a compact rosette with a color palette of green, cream, and pink on the upper surface and deep purple on the reverse side. Each leaf is lance-shaped and grows upright, reaching heights of around 12 inches tall and spreading to about 24 inches wide. The foliage intensifies in color under brighter light, while lower light can cause the hues to fade.

When provided with ample bright light, it produces small white flowers that emerge nestled within the plant's folded leaves. These blooms add an ornamental touch to an already visually captivating plant.

'Moses in the Cradle' tolerates a range of indoor conditions and adapts well to various spaces, from tabletops to shelving. You can grow it outdoors year-round in warmer regions, and the compact size makes it suitable for offices, desks, and rooms where space is limited. This plant is mildly toxic, so keep it away from pets and children who might ingest the leaves.

  •   Oyster 'Moses in the Cradle' grows best in bright, indirect light. Prolonged periods in low light cause the plant to lose its colors and become leggy.

Water it when the soil begins to dry, keeping it consistently moist but never waterlogged. Check soil moisture before watering to avoid root rot.

'Moses in the Cradle' grows well in well-draining houseplant soil that retains slight moisture. Standard high-quality potting soil works effectively for this plant.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F. Keep it away from cold below 50°F and extreme heat above 85°F; maintain around 50% humidity, especially during dry months.

'Moses in the Cradle' is a compact, slow-growing plant that reaches its mature size within several months. Feed it with diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer once or twice monthly during spring and summer; skip feeding in fall and winter.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, surviving outdoors year-round where winter temperatures stay above 25°F. It grows well in southern Florida, southern California, Hawaii, and southern Texas where freezing temperatures are rare. Indoor cultivation works everywhere else.

Perfect For Every Occasion: housewarming, hostess gift, thank-you gift, employee appreciation, corporate or client gift, just because

What This Plant Symbolizes: protection, rebirth and renewal, good luck and prosperity, hospitality and welcome, resilience and endurance

A Thoughtful Gift For: a plant-loving friend, someone with a green thumb, anyone who appreciates striking foliage, a friend seeking good energy, someone working toward personal growth

  • Q: How often should I water Oyster 'Moses in the Cradle'?
A: Check the top inch of soil before watering; soil should stay consistently moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering frequency in winter. Bright, indirect light keeps the foliage vibrant.

Q: What causes brown tips on 'Moses in the Cradle'?
A: Brown tips result from water quality issues like chlorine or fluoride in tap water, low humidity, or inconsistent watering. Use filtered water and maintain even soil moisture.

Q: How fast does it grow?
A: Growth is slow to moderate, typically reaching its mature size of 12 inches tall within a few months under proper light and 'Moses in the Cradle' develops fuller foliage with consistent care.

Q: Is Oyster Plant toxic to cats or dogs?
A: Yes, it is mildly toxic. Ingestion can cause digestive discomfort, so keep it out of reach of pets and children.

    Q: Can I propagate it?
A: Yes. Remove stem cuttings or offshoots and place them in water or moist soil until roots develop, then pot Oyster Plant separately.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
