    •   Soleirolia soleirolii, also called Baby's Tears, is a low-growing creeping perennial in the family Urticaceae, native to the islands of the western Mediterranean, including Sardinia and Corsica. It spreads across the ground in a dense, moss-like mat, thriving naturally in moist, shaded environments along rocky slopes and stream banks.

        The leaves are tiny, rounded, and bright green, densely packed along thin, thread-like stems that creep and trail in every direction. Up close, the texture resembles a fine-knit fabric, with each leaf only a few millimeters across. Soleirolia soleirolii forms a low, spreading carpet that spills over the edges of pots and hanging baskets.

        Flowers on Soleirolia soleirolii are extremely small, white to pale pink, and appear tucked at the base of the leaves in spring and summer. They are not strongly fragrant and are easy to overlook given the scale of the foliage. This plant is pet friendly, and it naturally humidifies the surrounding air as it grows.

        A hanging hook lets Soleirolia soleirolii trail freely from a basket, and it also works well as ground cover in terrariums where moisture stays consistently high. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as dry blowing air causes the stems to dry out quickly.
