  •   Neoregelia 'Fireball', also called Fireball Bromeliad, is a compact bromeliad native to the rainforests of Brazil, where it grows as an epiphyte on trees and rock faces. It belongs to the family Bromeliaceae and is one of the smaller neoregelia cultivars, grown for its intense foliage color rather than its size.

'Fireball' forms a tight, low-growing rosette of broad, strap-like leaves that flush deep red or burgundy-red when exposed to bright light. In lower light, the leaves hold more green at the base, with red concentrating toward the tips and center. The rosette stays compact, typically reaching four to six inches across, with stiff leaves that have finely toothed edges.

Small flowers emerge from the water-holding central cup of the rosette, sitting close to the base rather than rising on a tall spike. The blooms are modest in size and typically violet or lavender. After flowering, 'Fireball' produces offsets called pups at the base, and these pups can be separated once they reach roughly one-third the size of the mother plant.

Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as dry blowing air affects the foliage over time. 'Fireball' fits naturally into terrariums, where enclosed humidity keeps the leaves saturated with moisture, and it also does well near a kitchen where ambient steam is consistent. You can move it outside for the summer months, but place it under a covered area so rain does not flood the central cup and stagnate. This plant is pet friendly, purifies indoor air, and naturally humidifies the air around it. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Neoregelia Fireball grows well in bright indirect light, where the foliage develops its deepest red tones.

It needs water every ten to fourteen days, poured into the central cup and lightly into the soil.

'Fireball' does best in a fast-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of potting soil.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 85°F and should not be exposed to anything below 50°F.

'Fireball' is a slow-growing bromeliad; feed it with a half-strength balanced liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 through 12, where temperatures stay reliably above 30°F to 35°F year-round. It grows outdoors in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and parts of coastal Texas and Arizona. It performs as an outdoor landscape plant in those zones and as an indoor container plant everywhere else.
  • Q: How much light does Neoregelia Fireball need?
A: A north- or east-facing window keeps it healthy. A south-facing window can scorch the leaf tips, so diffuse the light with a sheer curtain if that is your only option.

Q: How do I know if I am overwatering this plant?
A: Neoregelia Fireball shows overwatering through soft, mushy leaf bases and a foul smell coming from the central cup. Empty and rinse the cup if water has been sitting there for more than a week.

Q: Can 'Fireball' grow under office LED lights?
A: Yes, it handles fluorescent and LED office lighting reasonably well, though the foliage will stay greener and show less red without natural light nearby.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: 'Fireball' produces pups at the base after flowering. Let each pup grow until it is about two inches across, then cut it away from the mother plant with a clean blade and pot it separately.

Q: Is Fireball Bromeliad safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs and is considered pet friendly.

Q: Where does this plant do best in the home?
A: Fireball Bromeliad thrives in kitchens and bathrooms where ambient humidity runs higher. It also settles in well inside a terrarium where moisture stays consistent.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
