  •   Neoregelia Donger is a tropical bromeliad (Neoregelia sp.) native to the rainforests of South America, where it grows as an epiphyte on trees and forest floors beneath a dense canopy. It belongs to the Bromeliaceae family and has gained a following among bromeliad collectors as a genuinely rare find in the houseplant world.

'Donger' forms a low, spreading rosette of broad, strap-like leaves with serrated edges. The foliage runs green with banding or mottling, and the central cup deepens toward red or burgundy-red as the plant matures or receives brighter light. The rosette stays relatively compact, with leaves arching outward in a flat, circular pattern.

Like most Neoregelia species, 'Donger' blooms from the central cup, producing small flowers nestled at the water line inside the tank. The bloom period typically triggers a flush of color in the inner leaves, with the center blushing more intensely around flowering. It is pet-friendly, and it naturally humidifies the surrounding air as part of its normal moisture exchange.

Rotate 'Donger' regularly so every side of the rosette receives even light exposure. It thrives in the moisture-rich air near a kitchen, and the central cup should always hold fresh water, emptied and refilled weekly to prevent stagnation. Keep it away from air conditioning and heating vents, as direct airflow dries the air faster than the plant can compensate. It fits well in a terrarium setup and can move outside for summer, as long as temperatures stay warm and stable.

  •   Neoregelia Donger grows well in bright indirect light, such as a few feet back from an east or north-facing window.

Water it by filling the central cup weekly and refreshing the soil every ten to fourteen days, keeping the mix lightly moist.

'Donger' does best in a fast-draining bromeliad or orchid mix blended with perlite for airflow around the roots.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 85°F and should not be exposed to air below 50°F.

'Donger' is a slow grower; feed it with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, tolerating outdoor conditions where temperatures stay reliably above 50°F. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, Hawaii, and coastal southern California. It also performs outdoors seasonally in Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia, and South Carolina during frost-free months.
  • Q: Is Neoregelia Donger safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How sensitive is this plant to being moved around the house?
A: Neoregelia Donger can react to frequent repositioning by slowing growth or dropping its color intensity, so it does best when left in one stable spot.

Q: Can 'Donger' grow under office LED lighting?
A: It can manage under good-quality full-spectrum office LEDs placed close enough to provide consistent bright output throughout the day.

Q: What happens if this plant is overwatered in the soil?
A: 'Donger' develops root rot when the soil stays wet for extended periods, so the mix should approach dryness between soil waterings even as the central cup stays filled.

Q: Does 'Donger' work in a terrarium setup?
A: It does well in an open or vented terrarium where humidity stays consistently high and airflow prevents stagnant moisture from sitting on the leaves.

Q: How do I know if this plant is getting too much light?
A: 'Donger' will show pale, washed-out patches or dry, papery edges on the leaf tips when placed too close to a bright south-facing window.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
