  •   Monstera Dubia, also called Shingle Plant, is a rare climbing aroid native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America. In its natural habitat, it scrambles up tree trunks with leaves pressed flat against the bark as it climbs toward the forest canopy. Collectors seek it out for its dramatic juvenile growth form and silver variegation.

The leaves are small and heart-shaped, patterned with silver and dark green variegation that lie flat against any surface it climbs. This shingling growth habit is the plant's signature trait, giving the leaves an almost scale-like appearance as they overlap tightly. As it matures on a moss pole, the leaves gradually enlarge and develop the fenestrations classic to the Monstera genus, transforming from a compact climber into a spectacular showpiece.

Monstera Dubia is grown primarily for its extraordinary foliage rather than its flowers, and bloom data for cultivated specimens is limited. The plant filters airborne toxins and contributes to fresher indoor air quality. Placing it near a kitchen or bathroom where ambient moisture is naturally higher helps it express its best color and growth.

Rotate the plant regularly for even growth and shield it from direct south-facing sun, which scorches its variegated leaves. Keep it away from air conditioning or heating vents that dry out the air. Its compact shingling form makes it an exceptional choice for a terrarium setup or a moss-pole display on a high shelf. The sap can cause skin and paw irritation, so cats and dogs should be kept away from it.

  •   Monstera 'Dubia' (Shingle Plant) - Live Plants grows well in medium to bright indirect light and scorches easily in direct south-window sun.

Water it every 7-10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry before watering again.

Monstera Dubia does best in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix combining perlite, bark, and peat or coco coir.

It prefers temperatures between 65-85°F and should never be exposed to frost or cold below 50°F.

Monstera Dubia is a moderate-to-slow vining grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-11, where temperatures stay reliably above 35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in warm coastal and southern states including Hawaii, Florida, Southern California, and the southernmost areas of Texas and Arizona. It can move outside for summer in Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Nevada, and along the mild Oregon and California coasts, but bring it indoors before autumn temperatures drop.
  • Q: How much light does Monstera 'Dubia' (Shingle Plant) - Live Plants need?
A: Keep it in medium to bright indirect light. Move it away from south-facing windows, where direct sun scorches the variegated leaves within hours.

Q: Does this plant purify the air?
A: Monstera 'Dubia' (Shingle Plant) - Live Plants filters airborne toxins and contributes to fresher indoor air, making it a good choice for bedrooms or living spaces.

Q: Is Monstera Dubia safe around pets and children?
A: No. The sap can cause skin and paw irritation, so keep cats and dogs away from it. Place it on a high shelf, well out of reach of small children.

Q: How does humidity affect growth?
A: Monstera Dubia performs best above 60% relative humidity. A terrarium, pebble tray, or placement near a kitchen or bathroom enhances color saturation and encourages fuller, more robust leaf development.

Q: How fast does Shingle Plant grow, and how large does it get?
A: Growth is moderate to slow, especially in lower light, but it climbs steadily up a moss pole with consistent warmth and humidity. Juvenile plants stay compact, while mature climbing specimens can reach several feet tall indoors.

Q: Can I propagate from stem cuttings?
A: Shingle Plant stem cuttings with at least one node root reliably in moist sphagnum moss or water in a warm, humid environment. After roots develop, transition cuttings to soil within four to six weeks.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
