  •   Monstera Adansonii, also called Swiss Cheese Plant, is a tropical vine from the Araceae family native to the rainforests of Central and South America. It climbs and trails through the forest understory, adapting to indoor life as a houseplant and collector favorite.

The leaves are small, heart-shaped, and deep green with a slightly waxy finish, marked by oval holes and perforations that give the plant its Swiss Cheese appearance. It grows with an upright-to-trailing habit, equally suitable in a hanging basket or cascading from a high shelf. As it matures, the fenestrations become more dramatic, with each new leaf developing more pronounced holes.

Monstera Adansonii rarely flowers indoors, so the appeal lies entirely in the foliage. The plant actively filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins, improving air quality while naturally humidifying the space around it.

Grow it as a trailing plant in a hanging setup or train it upright on a moss pole. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered spot away from direct rain, then bring it back indoors before temperatures drop. Keep it on a high shelf away from cats, dogs, and small children, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Monstera Adansonii 'Swiss Cheese' grows well in bright indirect light and tolerates low light, but scorches in direct south-facing sun.

Water it every 7-10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings; it wilts slightly when thirsty.

Monstera Adansonii does best in a well-draining mix of peat or coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark.

It prefers temperatures between 65-85°F and should never be exposed to frost or freezing conditions.

Monstera Adansonii is a moderate-to-fast grower; feed it monthly in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, southern Florida, and the southernmost tips of California and Texas. It grows outdoors during warm months in Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, and Nevada; bring it indoors before cold snaps arrive.
  • Q: How much light does Monstera Adansonii 'Swiss Cheese' need?
A: Bright indirect light is ideal, but it tolerates low light as well. Avoid direct south-facing windows, which scorch the leaves.

Q: Is it safe to keep around pets?
A: Monstera Adansonii 'Swiss Cheese' can cause skin and paw irritation if chewed or eaten by cats and dogs. Place it on a high shelf out of reach.

Q: How do I propagate Monstera Adansonii?
A: Take a stem cutting with at least one node and one leaf, then place it in water or moist sphagnum moss. Roots typically appear within two to four weeks.

Q: Why are the leaves turning yellow?
A: Yellow leaves usually result from overwatering, low humidity, or cold drafts from AC or heating vents. Check soil moisture, boost humidity, and move Monstera Adansonii away from direct airflow.

Q: Can Swiss Cheese Plant survive a trip?
A: Water it well before leaving. In stable, indirect light away from temperature fluctuations caused by AC or heater vents, it can handle 7-10 days on its own.

Q: How fast does Swiss Cheese Plant grow?
A: It is a moderate-to-fast grower that responds well to monthly feeding during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
