    •   Maranta Leuconeura 'Silver Band', also called Silver Band Prayer Plant, is a tropical foliage plant in the Marantaceae family, native to the rainforests of Brazil. It grows naturally on the forest floor beneath dense canopy, where light filters through in shifting, indirect patterns.

        Oval leaves sit on slender stems and reach around 5 inches long, with a pale silver-green band running down the midrib and feathering out toward the edges. The upper surface is deep green with darker markings along the veins, while the underside is a muted purple-red. At night, the leaves fold upward along the midrib, a movement driven by changes in light, and settle back open by morning.

        'Silver Band' occasionally produces small, white to pale lavender flowers on thin stalks, though blooms are infrequent indoors and the plant is primarily grown for its foliage. It folds and opens its leaves daily in response to light, a trait visible year-round regardless of flowering.

        Rotate 'Silver Band' a quarter turn every few weeks so all sides receive even light exposure. It grows well in a terrarium, where enclosed humidity stays naturally high, and also thrives near a kitchen sink where ambient moisture from cooking and washing keeps the air from drying out.
