  •   Lithops, also called Living Stones, is a fascinating succulent native to the arid deserts and rocky plains of southern Africa. This plant belongs to the genus Lithops in the Aizoaceae family and evolved to blend seamlessly with surrounding gravel and stone in some of Earth's driest conditions.

The plant grows as a pair of thick, fleshy lobes split by a central fissure, mimicking small pebbles with uncanny accuracy. Its top surface features subtle windows, spots, and marbling in shades of gray, brown, green, and rust, with each plant displaying its own unique pattern. It stays compact and upright, typically reaching just 1-2 inches in height.

In autumn, white or bright yellow daisy-like flowers emerge from the central fissure and last several days with light fragrance. Blooms appear once the plant receives a natural night temperature drop. New growth emerges annually from the same fissure as the spent flower, gradually replacing the old pair of lobes.

Move it outside in summer to enjoy bright natural light, keeping it covered or sheltered from rain to prevent overwatering. Deep roots mean it develops best in a heavy pot with good depth to stay stable. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It is pet-friendly and safe for cats and dogs.

  •   Lithops Living Stones Live Cactus grows well in bright indirect light and under office LED lighting.

Water it sparingly, roughly every 2-3 weeks in summer and barely at all during winter dormancy, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

Lithops does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix with added coarse sand or perlite to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65-80°F and should be protected from frost below 30°F.

Lithops is a slow-growing succulent needing minimal fertilizer, at most a single light feeding of diluted cactus fertilizer in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating brief dips to around 30°F but performing best in frost-free winters. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi, as well as coastal Oregon. Gardeners in all other states can grow it outdoors in summer and bring it indoors before the first frost.
  • Q: Is Lithops Living Stones Live Cactus pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: How often should I water during the growing season?
A: Lithops Living Stones Live Cactus needs water every 2-3 weeks in summer. The lobes may look slightly wrinkled or feel less firm when soil has dried out completely.

Q: How much light does Lithops need?
A: Bright indirect light works best, but it also adapts well to office LED lighting and does not require direct sun.

Q: Why won't it flower for me?
A: Lithops blooms in autumn after receiving a natural night temperature drop, so cooler evening temperatures trigger flowering.

Q: How large does Living Stones grow?
A: It stays very compact, typically reaching only 1-2 inches tall and wide, making it suited for small pots and desktop displays.

Q: Can it survive outdoors in winter?
A: Living Stones survives brief dips to 30°F but does best with frost-free winters. In zones 9-11 it can stay outside year-round; gardeners elsewhere should bring it indoors before the first frost.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
