  •   Korean Rock' Fern (Polystichum tsus-simense) is a compact, evergreen fern native to rocky woodlands and shaded hillsides across Korea, Japan, and China. It belongs to the Dryopteridaceae family and grows naturally among mossy stones and forest floors where light is filtered and humidity stays consistent.

The fronds are dark green, leathery, and lance-shaped, with finely toothed pinnae that give each frond a crisp, detailed outline. It stays low and compact, typically reaching 12 to 18 inches tall, with arching fronds that emerge from a central crown. New growth unfurls in a lighter green before deepening to the darker shade of the mature foliage.

Ferns reproduce through spores rather than flowers, so Korean Rock Fern produces no blooms. On the undersides of mature fronds, small round sori appear in neat rows, carrying the spores that the plant uses to reproduce. It is also pet-friendly, safe for homes with cats and dogs.

Korean Rock Fern works well in terrariums, where the enclosed humidity suits it naturally. It also thrives near kitchen or bathroom moisture and can move outside for summer in a sheltered spot, though it needs cover from rain to avoid waterlogged soil. Keep it away from heating vents and air conditioning units, as dry moving air causes the fronds to brown at the tips. It wilts slightly when the soil has dried out too long, and the fronds perk back up after watering.

  •   Korean Rock' Fern grows well in medium to bright indirect light, away from south-facing windows where direct sun scorches the fronds.

It needs watering every 7 to 10 days, keeping the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged.

Korean Rock Fern does best in a peat-based or coco coir mix with added perlite for drainage and moisture retention.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 75°F and suffers near heating vents or air conditioning airflow.

Korean Rock Fern is a slow-growing fern; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 6 to 9, tolerating temperatures down to around 0°F in zone 6 with some protection. It grows outdoors year-round in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington. It also grows outdoors in Virginia, Kentucky, and parts of the mid-Atlantic and Pacific Northwest where winters stay mild enough.
  • Q: Is Korean Rock' Fern safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs more humidity?
A: Korean Rock' Fern develops brown, crispy frond tips when the surrounding air is too dry, which happens most often near heaters or AC units.

Q: Can Korean Rock Fern grow under office lighting?
A: It can manage under bright LED office lights, though growth will be slower than near a north or east-facing window.

Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Korean Rock Fern develops yellowing fronds and mushy crown tissue when the soil stays soggy for too long, especially in a pot without drainage.

Q: Can Korean Rock Fern go outside in summer?
A: Move it outside once temperatures stay consistently above 55°F, placing it in a sheltered spot with filtered shade and cover from direct rain.

Q: How big does it get indoors?
A: Korean Rock Fern typically reaches 12 to 18 inches tall and wide at maturity, staying compact enough for a shelf, terrarium, or tabletop.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
