    •   Haworthia truncata 'Jolly Green Giant' is a compact succulent from the Asphodelaceae family, native to South Africa. It forms a distinctive windowed rosette with thick, stacked leaves that create a geometric silhouette sought by collectors and beginners alike.

The plant develops a tightly packed rosette of pale green, truncated leaves arranged in neat rows. Each leaf has a flattened top surface with transparent, window-like patches that allow light to reach the inner tissues. It grows slowly and remains small, rarely exceeding 3–4 inches tall, making it well-suited to shelves, desks, and containers.

Jolly Green Giant produces small, pale yellow flowers on thin spikes during the warmer months. Blooms appear sporadically rather than in a concentrated flush. The leaves remain the primary visual focus.

This plant tolerates dry, heated indoor air and adapts well to terrariums, shallow bowls, or any container with drainage. Move it outside during summer months, though it needs cover from rain as it is sensitive to prolonged moisture. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Jolly Green Giant is pet-friendly, making it a safe choice for homes with cats or dogs.

    •   Haworthia truncata 'Jolly Green Giant' grows well in bright indirect light but will scorch in south-facing windows during peak afternoon heat.

Water it every 10–14 days during the growing season when the top inch of soil feels dry. In winter, extend the interval between waterings as growth slows.

Jolly Green Giant does best in fast-draining cactus or succulent mix, or standard potting soil amended with perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 50–75°F and tolerates dry, heated air from indoor heating systems without stress.

Jolly Green Giant is a slow-growing rosette that rarely needs fertilizer; apply a diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring if desired.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10–11 and grows year-round outdoors in southern Florida, southern California, Arizona, Hawaii, and coastal regions of Texas.

    • Q: How often should I water Haworthia truncata 'Jolly Green Giant'?
A: During spring and summer, water when the top inch of soil feels dry. In winter, water only once a month or less as growth slows and moisture needs drop.

Q: Is this plant safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes. Haworthia truncata 'Jolly Green Giant' is non-toxic to cats, dogs, and other household animals.

Q: Can Jolly Green Giant survive in a terrarium?
A: Yes. Ensure the terrarium has drainage holes and allow the soil to dry between waterings to prevent root rot.

Q: What happens if I place it in a south-facing window?
A: Jolly Green Giant will scorch in direct south-facing sunlight during peak afternoon hours. Move it to a north or east-facing window to prevent leaf damage.

Q: How long can Jolly Green Giant go without water during a trip?
A: It can go without water for up to 10 days. For longer absences, water it thoroughly before you leave so the soil is evenly moist.

Q: Does this plant need special humidity or air care?
A: No. Jolly Green Giant tolerates dry, heated indoor air from heaters and air conditioning units without difficulty and does not require misting or a humidifier.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
