Haworthia emelyae var. Major is a very rare and unique pinkish brown species with triangular windowed leaves. It forms attractive stemless rosettes. Its leaves have scruffy hairs. Plants flower off and on all year round.

Flowers are white with green veins and appear in late spring or summer on upright, up to 16 inches (40 cm) tall stems

Haworthia emelyae var. Major live in more sheltered spots, and they are adapted to thrive in partial shade. Place the potted plants in a bright area with some protection from the hottest rays of the day.

All Haworthia species do not like their roots to remain wet for prolonged periods, so their potting soil should be well-drained.

These succulents are very tolerant of underwatering, but overwatering can quickly lead to rotting. During the winter rest period, water just enough to keep leaves from shriveling.

Vegetative propagation, especially by offsets. They can also be propagated by leaves and seeds.

These succulents are generally slow-growing and can stay in the same pot for years. For best health, Haworthias should be repotted into fresh soil every two to three years.

* Minimalist Pot Options: White/ Oatmeal/ Gray colors are randomly picked

* Grower pot option is plastic pot, the color of the plastic pot will be random (brown, black, white or green)

* We use 3.5 inch wide clay pots for 4" succulent plant + clay pot option.

Your plant will be carefully wrapped in a sturdy box. Most of the succulents will be shipped bare-root to ensure their safety. If you want to receive the plastic pot & soil, please leave a note in your order. When opening your package, some soil may be loose in the box. We only ship out beautiful, healthy plants! Please track your package and open it immediately upon arrival. If you receive your package and are not satisfied, please message us immediately. Fragile plants such as bearpaw, baby toe, etc. may break or loose a few of their leaves during transport. Please contact us for replacements if your plants are severely damaged. Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.

Healthy and good=sized.

I received a Haworthia emelyae var. Major on March 4, 2022 in order #238487. This plant had no roots - possibly 1 short ⅜” root. The base of the plant is callused over. There were no broken roots in the packaging. Is this typical? I thought I ordered a rooted plant not an unrooted cutting. If this is typical (no roots) should it be kept in slightly damp soil? If I allow the soil to go very dry, I would think that would discourage root development. Or should this plant not have been shipped? I have a photo of the underside of the plant upon receipt, but I don't see how I can attach a photo to my question. Thanks.

Hi Lucas,

It requires light shade to bright light (protect from strong midday sun). In shade, the body color will remain mostly green, while full sun will darken and give it rich pink-red body color. The amount of sunlight it can withstand without scorching depends upon how hot it becomes in the summer in the location in which it is planted. It will have more color if it receives more light.

Would this succulent look good in the shade or does it need a few hours of sun? Does it get greener in the shadow or the same way it looks in the photos? (if it's wrong written sorry i'm new to the usa)

Hi there,

Haworthia emelyae var. Major succulents need strong light. When planting this succulent type in a garden, make sure it gets sunlight. Full to partial sun is the best for its growth. Emelyae leaves are dark green and sometimes silver. This plant becomes a rich burgundy (red) when exposed to direct sunlight.
