  •   Gasteria 'Triceratops Skin' is a rare dark green succulent hybrid in the family Asphodelaceae, bred for its dramatically textured foliage that resembles the rough, scaled hide of a dinosaur. It grows as a compact rosette and is rare in cultivation, with confirmed specimens appearing only occasionally in specialty collections.

The leaves are thick, tongue-shaped, and covered in raised, irregular tubercles that give the surface a bumpy, almost granular texture. They are dark green with faint, mottled patterning across the surface, arranged in a tight, upright rosette. Each leaf is firm and fleshy, tapering to a blunt tip, and the overall plant stays compact even at maturity.

It produces tubular, coral-pink to orange-red flowers on tall, arching stalks, typically in late winter to spring. It blooms more freely when nighttime temperatures drop, which triggers the flowering cycle.

Move it outside for summer, but keep it covered during rain to prevent waterlogged soil. 'Triceratops Skin' does well under office LEDs and away from south-facing windows, where direct sun scorches the leaf surface. It is pet friendly. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It tolerates the dry air produced by indoor heating systems. Keep it away from AC vents and heater outlets, as the direct airflow dries the leaf tips.

  •   Gasteria 'Triceratops Skin' grows well in bright indirect light or medium light, including under office LED setups.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

'Triceratops Skin' does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix blended with coarse perlite or pumice.

It prefers temperatures between 50°F and 80°F and is sensitive to cold drafts from AC units or heating vents.

'Triceratops Skin' is a slow growing succulent; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 25°F to 30°F briefly. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It also grows outdoors in parts of Oregon and coastal regions of the Pacific Northwest where winters stay mild.
  • Q: Is Gasteria 'Triceratops Skin' safe for cats and dogs?
A: It is pet friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know if I am overwatering this succulent?
A: Gasteria 'Triceratops Skin' will show soft, mushy leaf bases when overwatered. The most common cause of decline is excess moisture around the roots; the pot must have drainage holes to prevent water from sitting.

Q: Can 'Triceratops Skin' grow in a room with no windows?
A: It can grow under office LED lighting, though a completely dark room with no artificial grow light will cause the rosette to stretch and weaken over time.

Q: How large does this plant get at maturity?
A: 'Triceratops Skin' stays compact, typically reaching 4 to 6 inches across at maturity due to its slow growing nature.

Q: Does 'Triceratops Skin' need to be rotated for even growth?
A: Rotating it a quarter turn every few weeks helps all sides of the rosette receive equal light and keeps growth balanced.

Q: Can this succulent spend time outdoors during summer?
A: Yes, provided the container has drainage holes and adequate airflow to prevent rot. Keep 'Triceratops Skin' out of south-facing exposure and cover it during rain to prevent waterlogged soil.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
