Elkhorn Plant Rhombophyllum, also called Elkhorn Plant, is a rare South African succulent from the Aizoaceae family native to the arid Eastern Cape. It evolved in rocky, sun-baked terrain where water is scarce, and this adaptation means it tolerates dry indoor air and periodic neglect.

The plant earns its common name from distinctive hatchet- or elkhorn-shaped leaves that grow in upright clumps. Leaves are thick and fleshy, colored blue-green to grey-green, with a keeled underside and small teeth along the edges. The compact clumping growth style makes it well-suited to small pots and dish gardens.

Bright yellow, daisy-like flowers emerge in spring and summer, opening in response to sunlight and closing at night. A nighttime temperature drop during the growing season encourages more prolific blooming.
