The plant's most recognizable feature is its tightly stacked, geometric leaf pairs that form neat upright columns. Fleshy leaves are pale silvery-green to ivory, coated in a fine powdery texture that gives it an almost sculptural, frosted appearance. As it matures, it develops a clustering habit, producing offsets that fill a pot with orderly, tower-like columns.
Small, pale flower clusters appear at the tips of its columns, typically encouraged by a nighttime temperature drop in late winter or early spring. Blooming is infrequent and not guaranteed, but when it does flower, it adds a finishing touch to the plant form. The foliage alone stands out year-round as a conversation piece.
Move it outside for summer in a sheltered, bright spot, though it must be protected from heavy rain to prevent rot. You can leave it up to ten days without water.
