  •   Cleistocactus straussii - Silver Torch Cactus is a stunning columnar cactus native to the high-altitude regions of Bolivia and Argentina. This architectural plant belongs to the Cactaceae family and has adapted to thrive in rocky, well-draining mountain slopes where it develops its characteristic woolly appearance as protection against harsh conditions.

The Cleistocactus straussii - Silver Torch Cactus displays magnificent silver-white woolly spines that completely cover its tall, columnar stems, creating an almost furry appearance. This slow growing cactus can reach 8-10 feet tall while maintaining a slender 3-4 inch diameter, making it an ideal architectural plant for modern landscapes. The dense white areoles and long silky spines give this woolly torch cactus its distinctive silvery glow that catches sunlight beautifully.

Mature Cleistocactus straussii - Silver Torch Cactus produces striking burgundy-red tubular flowers that emerge through the white woolly spines during late spring and summer. These vibrant blooms create a stunning contrast against the silver-white exterior and typically appear on plants that are at least 3-4 feet tall. The flowers attract hummingbirds and add unexpected color to this otherwise monochromatic desert beauty.

This easy care cactus makes an excellent focal point for xeriscaped gardens, modern patios, or as a dramatic indoor cactus near bright windows. Cleistocactus straussii - Silver Torch Cactus appeals to collectors seeking low maintenance plants with strong architectural presence and drought tolerant characteristics. Its frost tolerant nature and slow growth habit make it perfect for long-term container growing or permanent landscape installations.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
