  •   Schlumbergera, also called Christmas Cactus, is a tropical holiday cactus native to the rainforests of southeastern Brazil, where it grows as an epiphyte on tree branches in humid, shaded canopies. Unlike desert cacti, it grows well in moisture and dappled light rather than arid conditions. It is pet-friendly and has become one of the most popular houseplants worldwide.

The plant features flat, segmented stem sections with slightly scalloped or toothed edges and deep green pads that arch outward and trail downward as it matures. Its trailing growth habit makes it a natural fit for hanging baskets or high shelves. You can expect mature specimens to reach 12–24 inches in length depending on age and care.

Blooms appear in late autumn through winter, typically around Thanksgiving and Christmas, in colors ranging from soft white and blush pink to vivid magenta, coral, and red. Each plant produces a unique color. A well-cared-for specimen will rebloom year after year, with cooler nighttime temperatures around 50–55°F in autumn triggering the strongest flower set.

Move it outside in summer to a shaded or dappled spot; this boosts overall health and can enhance blooming the following season. Rotate it regularly for even growth and keep it away from AC vents and heater drafts to prevent leaf yellowing. The trailing form works well as a bathroom plant where natural humidity is higher, or near kitchens where moisture lingers. Propagation is straightforward: twist off a segment of two to three pads, let it callous for a day, then press it into moist, well-draining soil where roots form within weeks.

  •   Random Color Christmas Cactus Thanksgiving Cactus grows well in bright indirect light and should stay away from south-facing windows where direct sun scorches the pads.

Water it every 1–2 weeks, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. It wilts slightly when thirsty.

Schlumbergera grows best in a well-draining potting mix blended with perlite or orchid bark to prevent waterlogged roots.

It prefers temperatures between 60–75°F and must be protected from frost, as it cannot tolerate freezing conditions.

Schlumbergera is a moderate, trailing grower that benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10–12, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 30–35°F before cold damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and the southernmost regions of Texas and Arizona. It can spend warm months outdoors in Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal areas of Oregon and Washington, though it must be brought inside before the first frost arrives.
  • Q: Is Random Color Christmas Cactus Thanksgiving Cactus safe for pets?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What window placement works best for blooming?
A: Random Color Christmas Cactus Thanksgiving Cactus responds well to a bright east or west-facing window away from direct afternoon sun. Dark corners reduce blooms significantly.

Q: Can Schlumbergera handle being left unwatered during travel?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water if the soil is moist before you leave.

Q: Why are the leaves turning yellow?
A: Yellow pads typically result from overwatering, low humidity, or cold drafts from AC or heaters. Check your watering schedule and move it away from air vents.

Q: Does Christmas Cactus need high humidity?
A: It naturally prefers higher humidity and does especially well near kitchen or bathroom moisture. Occasional misting or a small humidifier nearby keeps it thriving.

Q: How do I encourage more blooms next season?
A: Christmas Cactus blooms most heavily after exposure to cooler nighttime temperatures (50–55°F) for several weeks in autumn combined with slightly reduced watering during this period.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
