  •   Aglaonema 'First Diamond', also called Chinese Evergreen, is a tropical foliage plant in the family Araceae, native to the humid forests of Southeast Asia. It has been widely cultivated as an indoor plant across the world for its adaptability and air-purifying qualities.

The leaves of 'First Diamond' are broad and lance-shaped, patterned with irregular patches of white and green across a deep green base. The variegated foliage is bold, with the white areas spreading toward the leaf edges and green veining running through the center. It forms an upright, bushy rosette of stems, typically reaching around 12 to 20 inches tall indoors.

Aglaonema cultivars occasionally produce small, spathe-type flowers, though 'First Diamond' is primarily grown for its foliage rather than its blooms. It filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins from the air, and studies have placed it among the houseplants known to purify indoor air in enclosed spaces.

'First Diamond' grows well under standard office LED lighting, and rotating the pot every few weeks keeps growth even on all sides. It thrives near a kitchen, where ambient moisture from cooking and washing keeps humidity levels comfortable. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as direct blasts of dry or cold air affect the leaves. Place it on a high shelf out of reach, as the sap causes skin and paw irritation, and it should be kept away from cats, dogs, and small children.

  •   Chinese Evergreen 'First Diamond' grows well in medium to bright indirect light, away from direct sun exposure.

Water it every 10 to 14 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

'First Diamond' does best in a well-draining mix of potting soil, perlite, and a small amount of peat.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should not be exposed to temperatures below 55°F.

'First Diamond' grows at a slow to moderate pace and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where frost is rare and temperatures stay reliably above 55°F. It grows outdoors in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and southern Texas. It can move outside for summer in warmer regions, provided it is shielded from heavy rain and brought back indoors before temperatures drop in autumn.
  • Q: Is Chinese Evergreen 'First Diamond' safe for pets and children?
A: The sap causes skin and paw irritation, and the plant should not be eaten by cats, dogs, or small children. Keep it on a high shelf or in a room pets and toddlers cannot access.

Q: How do I know when it needs more water?
A: Chinese Evergreen 'First Diamond' wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil before watering rather than watering on a fixed schedule alone.

Q: Can 'First Diamond' grow in an office with no natural windows?
A: It manages under standard fluorescent or LED office lighting without natural light. Growth will be slower, and rotating the pot helps all sides develop evenly.

Q: What happens if it gets too much water?
A: 'First Diamond' develops yellowing leaves and soft stems when overwatered. Root rot sets in quickly if the soil stays wet for extended periods, so good drainage is essential.

Q: Can Chinese Evergreen be moved outside during summer?
A: It can go outside in a shaded or sheltered spot during warm months. Cover it from rain and bring it back indoors before nighttime temperatures drop below 60°F.

Q: Does this plant help with indoor air quality?
A: Chinese Evergreen filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from indoor spaces, and it is widely listed among air-purifying houseplants suitable for homes and offices.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
