  •   Chick Charmlettes Princess Polly (Sempervivum 'Princess Polly') is a cold hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, bred from the hens and chicks group native to the mountains of Europe and western Asia. It forms tight, compact rosettes and belongs to the Sempervivum genus, which translates to "always alive."

'Princess Polly' produces rosettes of fleshy, pointed leaves in soft pink and green tones that deepen in full sun. The leaf tips carry a slight blush that intensifies with seasonal temperature swings. It stays compact, growing close to the ground in a symmetrical rosette form typical of the chick charmlettes series.

Sempervivum 'Princess Polly' produces star-shaped blooms on tall, upright stalks when it reaches maturity, typically in summer. It requires a drop in night temperatures to trigger blooming. After a rosette flowers, it completes its cycle and offsets around the base continue growing.

Rotate 'Princess Polly' regularly so each side receives even light exposure. You can move it outside for the summer months, and it handles autumn conditions well enough to stay outdoors into the cooler season. Cover it from prolonged rain to avoid waterlogged soil. This plant is pet friendly, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. It tolerates the dry heated air common in winter interiors.

  •   Chick Charmlettes Princess Polly grows well in direct sun to bright indirect light, with full sun bringing out the best leaf color.

Water it every ten to fourteen days in the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

'Princess Polly' does best in a gritty, fast-draining succulent or cactus mix with added perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F but tolerates frost and survives well below freezing once established.

'Princess Polly' is a slow to moderate grower and needs feeding only once in spring with a diluted balanced fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8, tolerating temperatures down to around -40°F in zone 3. It grows outdoors year-round in states including Montana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kansas. It also performs well outdoors across much of the Midwest, the Northeast, and the Pacific Northwest.
  • Q: Is Chick Charmlettes Princess Polly safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Chick Charmlettes Princess Polly wilts slightly when it has gone too long without water. The leaves may feel softer or look slightly deflated before the soil has fully dried out.

Q: Can 'Princess Polly' scorch in a south-facing window?
A: It can scorch if placed directly against glass in a south-facing window where heat builds up, especially in summer. Step it back a foot or two from the glass or filter the light with a sheer curtain.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: 'Princess Polly' naturally produces small offsets, called chicks, around the base of the mother rosette. Gently separate them once they have their own roots and pot them up individually.

Q: Does 'Princess Polly' need to come indoors for winter?
A: No, it is frost tolerant and survives hard freezes once established. If it stays in a pot, move the pot to a sheltered spot to protect the roots from repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Q: Why isn't this succulent blooming?
A: 'Princess Polly' needs a period of cooler night temperatures to initiate blooming. If it has spent the winter in a consistently warm interior, moving it outside in spring to experience natural temperature swings often triggers a bloom cycle.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
