  •   Calathea 'Warscewiczii' is a tropical houseplant from the Americas, sought by collectors for its velvety foliage and dramatic leaf patterns. Native to tropical rainforests, it grows well in warm, humid indoor environments and brings the jungle vegetation aesthetic of its native habitat to any home.

The plant's soft, velvety leaves feature a fishtail pattern in light and dark green with solid purplish undersides. It grows upright in a clumping form, creating a full silhouette that works well as a floor plant or tabletop specimen. The dense foliage develops on sturdy stems, and each leaf shows the distinctive two-tone patterning that defines this Calathea variety.

In season, 'Warscewiczii' may produce small cream-colored flower cones, though the foliage remains the primary ornamental feature. This prayer plant is sensitive to movement and relocation, so once you find a suitable spot, it prefers to stay put to avoid leaf drop and stress.

Rotate it regularly for even growth, as it will lean toward light sources. Keep it away from direct air from heating systems and air conditioning units, which dry the leaves rapidly. This plant is pet friendly, so it's safe around cats and dogs. It also purifies indoor air and filters formaldehyde and toxins, making it a functional addition to living rooms and bedrooms. Humidity is critical, so place it near kitchen moisture or set it in a terrarium where it grows in enclosed warmth.

  •   Calathea 'Warscewiczii' grows well in medium light and bright indirect light, away from south-facing windows where it scorches easily.

Water it when the top inch of soil feels dry, typically every 7-10 days.

'Warscewiczii' does best in well-draining, moisture-retentive potting mix with peat moss or coco coir and perlite.

It prefers temperatures between 65-75°F and dislikes sudden shifts; avoid placing it near heating vents or cold drafts.

'Warscewiczii' grows at a moderate pace, reaching mature height in 1-2 years; fertilize monthly during spring and summer with diluted liquid fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 11-12 and does not tolerate frost below 50°F. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and coastal Texas, but must be grown indoors or moved inside during winter in all other regions.
  • Q: How often should I water Calathea 'Warscewiczii'?
A: Check the soil moisture with your finger. Overwatering causes root rot, while letting it dry out completely causes leaf yellowing and wilting.

Q: Does this plant need a humidifier?
A: Calathea 'Warscewiczii'  thrives in high humidity above 50%; mist the leaves several times weekly, use a pebble tray filled with water, or group it with other plants to maintain moisture around the foliage.

Q: Can 'Warscewiczii' survive in low light?
A: It needs bright indirect light to maintain leaf color and growth patterns. Lower light environments cause the foliage to fade and slow development.

Q: Is it safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, 'Warscewiczii' is non-toxic to cats and dogs, so you don't need to worry about accidental nibbling.

Q: How fast does 'Warscewiczii' grow?
A: Growth rate depends on consistent warmth and humidity; most plants reach mature size in 1-2 years under ideal conditions.

Q: Why are the leaf tips brown on my plant?
A: 'Warscewiczii' develops brown leaf tips when humidity drops below 40%, tap water minerals accumulate, or the air near heating systems is too dry; use filtered water and mist regularly to prevent this.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
