  •   Boston Fern - Jester's Crown Fern (Nephrolepis obliterata), also called the Kimberly Queen Fern in some regions, is a tropical fern native to northern Australia and New Guinea. It belongs to the family Lomariopsidaceae and grows naturally in humid, shaded forest environments where moisture stays consistently high.

Jester's Crown Fern produces upright, arching fronds with sword-shaped leaflets that fan outward in a full, symmetrical habit. The fronds are forest green with a slightly glossy surface and can reach up to three feet in length in ideal conditions. Its growth form is more compact and upright than many other Boston fern varieties, with leaflets that sit closely and evenly along each stem.

Ferns do not produce flowers, so Jester's Crown Fern is grown entirely for its foliage. It filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins from the air and naturally adds moisture back into the surrounding environment as it transpires. It is also pet-friendly, making it safe to keep in homes with cats and dogs.

Keep it away from south-facing windows, where direct sun will scorch the fronds. Rotate the pot regularly so each side receives even light exposure. Jester's Crown Fern does well near a kitchen, where ambient moisture from cooking and washing supports the high humidity it needs. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as dry moving air causes the fronds to brown and drop. It is sensitive to being moved and may drop some fronds when relocated, so choose a spot and leave it there. You can bring it outside during summer months in a shaded or partly shaded area, and it may stay out into early autumn in mild climates. It also grows well under office LED lighting, where natural light is limited.

  •   Boston Fern - Jester's Crown Fern grows best in bright indirect light, away from direct sun exposure.

It needs consistently moist soil; water when the top inch feels dry, roughly every five to seven days.

Jester's Crown Fern does best in a well-draining, peat-based or coco coir mix with added perlite for aeration.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 75°F and should not be exposed to air below 50°F.

Jester's Crown Fern is a moderate grower; feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, where temperatures rarely drop below 25°F to 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, California, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It also grows outdoors in parts of Oregon and Washington along the milder coastal areas.
  • Q: Is Boston Fern - Jester's Crown Fern safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Boston Fern - Jester's Crown Fern wilts slightly when the soil has dried out too much; check the top inch of soil and water before it gets fully dry.

Q: Can Jester's Crown Fern grow in low humidity?
A: It struggles in dry air and will develop brown leaf tips; misting the fronds, grouping it with other plants, or placing a humidity tray underneath all help.

Q: How much light does this fern need?
A: Jester's Crown Fern does well a few feet from a north or east-facing window, or set back from a bright west-facing one where no direct rays reach the fronds.

Q: Can Jester's Crown Fern go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside to a shaded or partly shaded spot once nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 50°F.

Q: What happens if it gets overwatered?
A: Jester's Crown Fern develops yellowing fronds and mushy stems at the base when the soil stays waterlogged; always let the top inch dry slightly between waterings and ensure the pot drains freely.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
