  •   Begonia 'Corallina', also called Angel Wing Begonia, is a cane-type begonia in the family Begoniaceae, native to the tropical forests of Brazil. It was developed in the early twentieth century from crosses involving Begonia aconitifolia, and it remains one of the most recognizable cane begonias grown indoors.

The leaves are long, asymmetrical, and wing-shaped, held on upright bamboo-like canes that can reach several feet tall. Upper leaf surfaces are deep green scattered with silver spots, while the undersides are burgundy-red. The canes grow in a tiered, upright habit, with each node producing a new set of leaves as the plant matures.

'Corallina' produces drooping clusters of coral-pink to red flowers, typically appearing in spring and summer and sometimes repeating into autumn. The blooms hang in pendulous bunches from the leaf axils along the canes. Bright indirect light encourages more frequent flowering throughout the growing season.

Rotate 'Corallina' every few weeks so all sides receive even light, as one-sided growth develops quickly without it. It settles into a spot and prefers not to be moved once placed, so choose a location carefully from the start. During summer, move it outside to a sheltered spot, but keep it covered from rain, which can damage the foliage and canes. The silver-spotted foliage and coral blooms have made this cane begonia a consistent favorite in begonia collections.

  •   Begonia 'Corallina' thrives in bright indirect light, away from direct sun that scorches its leaves.

Water it every seven to ten days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

'Corallina' does best in a well-draining mix of peat or coco coir, perlite, and a small amount of compost.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should be kept away from air conditioning vents and heaters.

'Corallina' is a fast grower that can reach three to five feet tall indoors; feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 11, where frost is rare and temperatures stay above 40°F year-round. It grows outdoors in southern Florida, Hawaii, and coastal southern California. It can also overwinter outside in protected spots across parts of the Gulf Coast, including Louisiana and southern Texas.
  • Q: How much light does Begonia 'Corallina' need?
A: Keep it within a few feet of an east- or west-facing window. A south-facing window can scorch the leaves unless it is set back from the glass or shaded by a sheer curtain.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Begonia 'Corallina' wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil before watering rather than watering on a fixed schedule alone.

Q: Is 'Corallina' safe to keep around pets?
A: Cats and dogs should be kept away from it. The sap can irritate paws and skin on contact, and the plant should not be nibbled or eaten by pets.

Q: How do I encourage more blooms?
A: 'Corallina' produces more flowers when humidity is higher, such as near a kitchen. Placing it in a spot with consistent warmth and bright indirect light also supports repeat blooming through the season.

Q: Can Angel Wing Begonia go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once temperatures stay reliably above 60°F. Choose a sheltered spot with indirect light and protect it from rain, which can bruise the foliage and introduce rot.

Q: Is Angel Wing Begonia safe around small children?
A: Angel Wing Begonia should be placed on a high shelf or in a spot that toddlers cannot reach. The sap can cause skin irritation on contact, and the plant should not be handled or ingested by young children.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
