  •   Anthurium Crystallinum, also called Crystal Anthurium, is a rare tropical aroid native to the rainforests of Central and South America, where it grows in humid, shaded understory conditions. It belongs to the Araceae family and is sought after by collectors for its dramatic, velvety foliage.

The leaves are large, heart-shaped, and deep green with a velvety texture across the surface. Pale silver-white veins run across each leaf in a net-like pattern, contrasting sharply against the dark green background. New leaves emerge with a faint burgundy-red tint before deepening to dark green as they mature. Leaves can reach up to 24 inches on established plants grown in the right conditions.

Anthurium Crystallinum produces small, narrow spathes that are greenish and modest compared to its foliage, and they appear occasionally without a consistent seasonal pattern. It does not carry any notable fragrance. Beyond flowering, it is recognized as an air purifying plant that filters formaldehyde and other indoor toxins, and it naturally releases moisture into the air around it.

Anthurium Crystallinum grows well in a terrarium, where the enclosed environment holds the high humidity it needs. It also thrives near kitchen moisture, where ambient humidity stays higher than in other rooms. Rotate it regularly so all sides of the plant receive even light. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as dry or forced air affects the leaves. Because sap from the plant can cause skin and paw irritation, keep it on a high shelf out of reach of pets and away from small children. This is a rare aroid, and it can be sensitive to being moved, so choose its spot carefully before settling it in place.

  •   Anthurium Crystallinum grows well in bright indirect light, away from south-facing windows where direct sun scorches its leaves.

Water it every 7-10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings; it wilts slightly when dry.

Anthurium Crystallinum does best in a chunky, well-draining mix of orchid bark, perlite, and peat or coco coir.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should not be exposed to temperatures below 55°F.

Anthurium Crystallinum is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 11-12, where frost does not occur. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii and southern Florida, where temperatures stay consistently above 55°F. In all other states, it grows best as an indoor tropical houseplant, and it can move outside in summer when nighttime temperatures stay reliably warm.
  • Q: How much humidity does Anthurium Crystallinum need to stay healthy?
A: It needs humidity above 60% to look its best. A humidifier, pebble tray with water, or placement in a terrarium or near a kitchen sink all help maintain that level consistently.

Q: Can I grow this plant under office or artificial lighting?
A: Anthurium Crystallinum can grow under bright LED office lighting if the fixture is close enough to provide adequate intensity. Growth may be slower than near a window, but the plant can adapt.

Q: Is Anthurium Crystallinum safe to keep around pets?
A: Cats and dogs should not be left to nibble or eat the plant. The sap can also cause irritation on paws or skin, so keeping it on a high shelf is the safest option.

Q: What does overwatering look like on this plant?
A: Anthurium Crystallinum will develop yellowing leaves, and the soil may stay soggy and begin to smell. Root rot can follow quickly if drainage is poor or watering is too frequent.

Q: Can Crystal Anthurium handle being moved to a new spot in the home?
A: It can be sensitive to being relocated, and leaves may droop or yellow temporarily after a move. Once it adjusts to its new position, it generally settles back in over a few weeks.

Q: How do I know when to water?
A: The clearest sign is slight wilting in the leaves. You can also press your finger about an inch into the soil. Crystal Anthurium is ready to water when that top layer has dried out.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
