  •   Alocasia 'Jacklyn' (Alocasia tandurusa) is a rare tropical aroid native to Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it grows on the forest floor beneath dense canopy cover. It belongs to the family Araceae and has gained a devoted following among collector plant enthusiasts for its deeply lobed, antler-like leaves that set it apart from most other alocasias.

Each leaf on 'Jacklyn' is large, arrow-shaped, and divided into deep, finger-like lobes along both sides of the midrib, giving the foliage an antler or skeletal appearance. The upper surface is dark green with pale green to silvery veining, and the undersides carry a lighter, almost matte finish. It can spread quite wide as it matures, with individual leaves reaching over two feet in length on tall petioles.

Flower information for this rare tropical aroid is limited and unverified, so describing blooms in detail would involve speculation. What is well documented is that 'Jacklyn' produces new leaves in flushes, and each unfurling leaf deepens in color and lobing as the plant matures. It also contributes some natural humidity to its immediate surroundings as part of its normal transpiration.

Keep 'Jacklyn' away from south-facing windows, where direct sun scorches the leaves. It is sensitive to being moved and tends to drop a leaf or two when relocated, so choose a spot and leave it there. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered position with cover from rain and no exposure to heater or air conditioning vents indoors. Cats, dogs, and small children should not have access to it — the sap causes skin and paw irritation, and the plant is harmful if ingested, so a high shelf or a room with a closed door is the safest placement.

  •   Alocasia 'Jacklyn' grows well in bright indirect light, such as a north- or east-facing window.

Water it thoroughly every 7-10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

'Jacklyn' does best in a chunky, well-draining mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 85°F and should not be exposed to air below 60°F.

'Jacklyn' is a moderately fast grower during warm months and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer every two to four weeks in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, where frost is rare and temperatures stay well above 32°F year-round. It grows outdoors in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and parts of Texas and Arizona. It also grows outdoors in Louisiana, Georgia's warmest coastal areas, and similar frost-free pockets across the Gulf Coast.
  • Q: How much humidity does Alocasia 'Jacklyn' need?
A: It needs high humidity, ideally 60% or above. Placing it near a kitchen or bathroom helps, and a humidifier works well for drier indoor environments.

Q: Is this plant safe for pets and children?
A: Alocasia 'Jacklyn' is not safe for pets or small children. The sap causes skin and paw irritation on contact, and the plant is harmful if ingested, so keep it on a high shelf or in a room pets and toddlers cannot access.

Q: Why is 'Jacklyn' losing leaves after I moved it?
A: Leaf drop after relocation is normal. It is sensitive to being moved and typically sheds one or two leaves while it adjusts to its new spot.

Q: How do I know when this plant needs water?
A: 'Jacklyn' wilts slightly when the soil has dried out too long. Check the top inch of soil, and if leaves are drooping alongside dry soil, it is time to water.

Q: Can 'Jacklyn' grow under office or artificial lighting?
A: It can adapt to grow under bright LED grow lights or strong office lighting, though growth will be slower than in natural indirect light near a window.

Q: How big does this plant get indoors?
A: 'Jacklyn' can reach three to five feet tall and spread nearly as wide indoors under good conditions, with individual leaves sometimes exceeding two feet in length.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
