Aeonium Black Rose Zwartkopf

58 reviews   |
  • Aeonium Black Rose 'Zwartkopf' is a striking succulent with clumps up to 3 feet (90 cm) tall gray-brown stems that often branch near their base. The long, bare stems hold large terminal rosettes (up to 8 inches/20 cm in diameter) of very dark purple, almost black leaves. Large conical clusters of bright yellow star-shaped blooms.

Aeonium leaves bruises very easily, so please expect that there may be some bruises on the leaves upon arrival. The bruises are absolutely normal and do no harm to the plant. The plant will quickly produce new leaves to replace the bruised ones.

All of the plants will be shipped bare root.

Aeonium arboreum Zwartkopf, commonly known as Black Rose, Black Beauty, Black Tree Aeonium, Black Aeonium.

  •   Full Sun is okay.

     Well drained soil is recommended.

Actively grows in Spring and Fall.

Black Roses planted in the ground require less watering than container plants, so feel the soil a few inches down near the roots to check for moisture. If it feels completely dry, water deeply.

With water-soluble 10-10-10 fertilizer diluted to half-strength once a month from May through September.

Generally non-toxic to humans and animals.

     Propagation by cuttings.

     Not cold hardy.

  • Your plant will be meticulously bubblewrapped and shipped in a sturdy box. Most 2" plants are shipped in their original plastic pot with soil. Fragile and big 4" plants are shipped bareroot to ensure their safety. When opening your package, some soil may be loose in the box. Plant orders are shipped within 3-5 days depending on availability of the plant. We ship our plants Monday through Friday, all twelve months of the year! If you need your order urgently, please message us so we can upgrade your shipping (additional cost applied). Here is our blog about the shipping process and packaging. We do not ship outside of the continental United States.

*** All of our packages are sterilized before leaving the door.

** We ship all year round, heat packs are available for purchase in the winter. Please purchase a heatpack if the temperature in your area is below 40F. If your heatpack isn't in the same order with your other plants, please drop us a message, we'll add it for you.
  • We only ship out beautiful, healthy plants! Please track your package and open it immediately upon arrival. If you receive your package and are not satisfied, please message us immediately. Fragile plants such as bearpaw, baby toe, etc. may break or loose a few of their leaves during transport. Please contact us for replacements if your plants are severely damaged. We'll try our best to accommodate you. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grown in, depending on availability or time of year.
  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.

Wish List plant acquired!

I impulse-ordered several plants when I first self-quarantined during the coronavirus pandemic. I placed my order on March 15 and received my plants on March 21. They were packaged well, individually wrapped in bubble wrap, and for the most part undamaged. Top picture and picture on the left are from the day I received them, picture on the right was taken March 31. I've been wanting one of these for a long time now, and am glad I finally ordered one! It was a bit banged up from shipping, but has really started to perk up over the past couple weeks. I can't wait to watch it continue to grow.
