  •   Haworthia cymbiformis f. variegata, also called cathedral window haworthia, is a rare variegated succulent in the Asphodelaceae family, native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It grows naturally in rocky, shaded habitats where it nestles under shrubs and overhangs.

The leaves are fleshy, boat-shaped, and arranged in a compact rosette, typically reaching 3 to 4 inches across. Each leaf is pale green with creamy yellow to white variegation streaked along the surface, and the translucent tips let light filter through the leaf tissue. The patterning varies from plant to plant, so no two rosettes look exactly alike.

Haworthia Variegata produces slender flower stalks in spring or summer, bearing small, tubular white blooms with faint pink or brown veining. A slight drop in nighttime temperature can encourage blooming. It is pet-friendly, and the rosette stays compact year-round between flowering cycles.

Rotate Haworthia Variegata a quarter turn every few weeks so all sides receive even light exposure. You can move it outside for summer, though it needs cover from rain and shelter from direct sun to avoid scorching. It releases oxygen at night, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, though it does tolerate the dry air that heated indoor spaces produce. Collectors seek out this rare variegated form, and it also fits comfortably in a terrarium or on a desk under office LED lighting.

  •   Haworthia cymbiformis f. variegata grows well in bright indirect light and under standard office LEDs. South-facing windows can scorch the leaves, so east or west exposure works better.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out fully between waterings. Reduce to once a month in winter.

Haworthia Variegata does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix, amended with perlite or coarse sand for extra drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors and should stay above 50°F at all times. Keep it away from cold drafts, AC vents, and heating units.

Haworthia Variegata is a slow-growing succulent that rarely needs repotting. Feed with a diluted succulent fertilizer at half strength once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 25°F for brief periods. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Hawaii, and parts of Oregon. It can also stay outside through autumn in these climates before temperatures drop too low.
  • Q: Is Haworthia cymbiformis f. variegata safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, this plant is pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Haworthia cymbiformis f. variegata will wilt slightly and the leaves may feel softer than usual when the soil has been dry too long. Overwatering is a more common problem, so err on the side of drier soil.

Q: Can Haworthia Variegata survive a trip or vacation?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without watering and it will be fine when you return.

Q: Does this plant work on a desk with no natural light?
A: Haworthia Variegata grows under standard office LED lighting without needing a window nearby.

Q: Why are the leaves on my Haworthia Variegata turning brown at the tips?
A: Brown tips are usually a sign of too much direct sun or scorching from a south-facing window. Move it to an east or west exposure and check that it is not sitting in a heat stream from a vent.

Q: Is this a good plant for a terrarium?
A: Haworthia Variegata fits well in an open terrarium. Avoid closed terrariums since trapped humidity can lead to rot at the base of the rosette.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
