  •   String Of Hearts Ceropegia woodii is a trailing succulent vine native to the rocky hillsides and forests of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini. Also called rosary vine, chain of hearts plant, or sweetheart vine, it has earned a devoted global following among rare plant collectors for its unusual form and minimal care requirements.

The leaves are small and heart-shaped, arranged in pairs along slender burgundy vines, with a silver-green marbled pattern on top and soft purple-pink undersides. It grows as an upright-to-trailing vine that cascades naturally from a hanging basket or elevated shelf. The vines can reach 2 to 4 feet long, with a lightweight trailing habit suited to any bright corner or hanging position.

String Of Hearts produces small, tubular lantern-shaped flowers in pale pink and deep purple tones, typically appearing in late summer through autumn. A slight drop in nighttime temperatures encourages more generous blooming, so moving it outside for summer can trigger a fuller display.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. It tolerates the dry heated air from indoor heating systems that challenge most other houseplants. Rotate it regularly to maintain even growth, and move it outside in summer with shelter from heavy rain to keep the vines long and full. String Of Hearts is pet friendly, making it safe for households with curious cats or dogs. It grows reasonably well under bright office LED lighting, though it reaches its full potential near a window.

  •   String Of Hearts Ceropegia woodii grows well in bright indirect light or partial sun, and should be kept away from scorching south-facing windows.

Water it every 10-14 days in summer and every 3-4 weeks in winter, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

String Of Hearts does best in a fast-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with perlite to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 60-80°F and should be brought indoors before temperatures drop below 50°F.

String Of Hearts is a moderate grower that benefits from a light balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, where temperatures rarely dip below 30-35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, coastal and southern California, southern Texas, Arizona's low desert valleys, and Hawaii. Gardeners in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and the warmer pockets of Nevada may also keep it outdoors with minimal winter protection.
  • Q: Is String Of Hearts Ceropegia woodii pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

    Q: What causes yellow leaves?
A: String Of Hearts Ceropegia woodii yellows most often from overwatering and soggy soil. Less often, low light or depleted soil nutrients can trigger yellowing.

Q: How do I propagate String Of Hearts?
A: Take a stem cutting with a few leaf pairs, let the cut end callus for a day, then place it in moist soil or water until roots develop. You can also propagate from the small tuber nodes found along the vines.

Q: Can it grow under artificial light?
A: String Of Hearts grows reasonably well under bright office LEDs placed close enough for adequate intensity. Natural bright indirect light near a window produces stronger stem development.

Q: Does String Of Hearts need special humidity?
A: It tolerates typical indoor humidity levels and actually prefers drier air, making it well-suited for heated homes and offices.

Q: What temperatures does it need to bloom?
A: String Of Hearts flowers more reliably with a slight nighttime temperature drop. A summer outdoor placement with outdoor conditions often results in more abundant flowering.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
