    •   Silver Squill Scilla Violacea - Ledebouria socialis, also called Silver Squill, is a small bulbous succulent native to southern Africa. It grows as a compact rosette of spotted leaves that emerge from underground bulbs.

The foliage is the main draw: narrow, lance-shaped leaves striped and spotted with deep purple-burgundy against green backgrounds, sometimes called leopard lily for this leopard-like patterning. Leaves stay relatively compact, typically reaching 3-4 inches tall in a tight clump. The stems are pale and fleshy, and the entire plant has a low, spreading form that works well in shallow containers.

Small tubular flowers appear in spring, typically white to pale pink with hints of purple, held on spikes above the foliage. It blooms best when given a nighttime temperature drop of 10-15 degrees in winter, which triggers flowering. The blooms are modest in scale, appearing in clusters that persist for several weeks.

Ledebouria socialis adapts well to both bright direct sun and low-light corners, though more direct light intensifies the purple spotting on the leaves. Move it outdoors in summer to a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade. It stays outdoors into autumn as long as temperatures stay above 45°F and rainfall is covered or the plant is moved under shelter. The plant tolerates dry, heated air from furnaces and air conditioning. Propagate it easily from leaf cuttings or offsets that form around the base; let cuttings air-dry for one day before setting them in dry succulent soil and waiting one week before the first watering.

    •   Silver Squill Scilla Violacea - Ledebouria socialis prefers bright indirect light or direct sun exposure.

Water it sparingly when soil is completely dry, typically every two to three weeks.

Ledebouria socialis requires well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix to prevent root rot.

It prefers warm conditions between 65–75°F and tolerates brief dips to 50°F.

Ledebouria socialis grows slowly in rosette clusters and needs minimal fertilizer during spring growth.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10–11, tolerating frost down to 30°F minimum. It grows outdoors in southern Florida, coastal California, southern Texas, Hawaii, and the warmest regions of Arizona, Georgia, and South Carolina where winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing.

    • Q: Can Silver Squill Scilla Violacea - Ledebouria socialis survive being left unwatered for extended periods?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water.

Q: Is this plant safe for cats and dogs?
A: Silver Squill Scilla Violacea - Ledebouria socialis is not safe for pets; its sap causes skin and paw irritation and the plant is dangerous if ingested. Keep it on a high shelf out of reach.

Q: Should Ledebouria socialis be misted or given extra humidity?
A: No; it tolerates dry, heated air indoors and prefers infrequent watering without added humidity, which can cause rot.

Q: Why are the leaves on my Silver Squill turning yellow?
A: Yellow leaves typically indicate overwatering or poor drainage; allow soil to dry longer between waterings and check that water drains freely from the pot.

Q: Can I propagate Silver Squill from cuttings?
A: Yes. Remove leaf or stem cuttings, let them air-dry for one day, place them on dry succulent soil, and wait one week before the first watering.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
