  •   Aloinopsis Schooneesii Cactus is a rare, drought-tolerant living stone succulent native to the rocky, arid regions of South Africa. Belonging to the Aloinopsis genus within the Aizoaceae family, it has adapted to survive extreme drought and dry soil conditions.

It grows in tight clumping rosettes with fleshy, blue-green leaves arranged in low clustering formations close to the ground. Each leaf is thick and warty in texture, often displaying subtle ridges and a stone-like surface that gives this succulent its living stone appearance. The compact form stays small, reaching only a few inches tall, making it a sculptural addition to any shelf or windowsill.

Aloinopsis Schooneesii produces daisy-like flowers in shades of yellow to soft gold, typically blooming in late winter to early spring. The flowers open in bright light and close at night. A noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures during late autumn and winter triggers blooming, so moving it to a cooler spot overnight during this period encourages flowering.

It develops deep, fleshy roots that store water and anchor the plant, so use a heavy pot with good depth to prevent tipping. Move it outside in summer into a bright, sheltered spot, though it must be protected from rain and overhead watering to prevent root rot. The plant can stay outside into autumn in mild climates. It is potentially poisonous if ingested, so place it on a high shelf well away from pets and small children. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Aloinopsis Schooneesii Cactus grows well in bright indirect light to partial or full sun, ideally near a south or east-facing window.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every 10 to 14 days in summer and monthly or less in winter.

Aloinopsis Schooneesii does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with coarse perlite or pumice for excellent drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 50 and 85°F and tolerates brief dips near freezing but is not frost hardy in all regions.

Aloinopsis Schooneesii is a slow-growing clumping succulent that needs only a light balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 25 to 30°F with excellent drainage and frost protection. It grows outdoors year-round across much of California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal Oregon. It also performs well in sheltered microclimates across parts of North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, and coastal areas of the Pacific Northwest where winter temperatures stay mild.
  • Q: Is Aloinopsis Schooneesii Cactus safe for pets?
A: It is considered potentially poisonous if ingested, so keep it well out of reach of pets and small children, ideally on a high shelf.

Q: What window placement works best for this plant?
A: Aloinopsis Schooneesii Cactus requires a south or east-facing window for bright light. Direct afternoon sun can scorch it in intense summer heat, so filter harsh rays with a sheer curtain if needed.

Q: How do I get Aloinopsis Schooneesii to bloom?
A: It needs a noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures during late autumn and winter to trigger blooming. Move it to a cooler spot overnight during this period.

Q: Can you leave this succulent without water for extended periods?
A: Aloinopsis Schooneesii tolerates extended dry periods between waterings, and can go up to ten days without water during its active growing season.

Q: Does Aloinopsis Schooneesii need frequent fertilizing?
A: It is a slow-growing plant that needs only a light balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer.

Q: Can this plant stay outdoors year-round?
A: Aloinopsis Schooneesii grows outdoors year-round in USDA zones 9 through 11, which includes most of California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and the Gulf Coast. In colder zones, bring it indoors before freezing temperatures arrive.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
