Rare Albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ has thick, tightly curled leaves on short stems that arise from an underground bulb.

Fragrant yellow flowers appear in spring on flower spikes that are adorned with10-20 blooms per spike. The blossoms have a light vanilla fragrance. Grow in full sun and allow the soil to dry out between waterings.

There are no pest or disease problems with ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ so it makes an ideal home garden plant that’s distinctive and eye-catching.

Albuca spiralis is a summer-dormant plant. Therefore, don't be alarmed if it loses its foliage and may not look as pretty as pictured. As long as the bulb is still healthy, in winter, the leaves will grow back and flowers will come in spring. Make sure to not overwater or feed the the bulb after it goes dormant and store it in a cool, dry location.

Keep in mind, when Albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ sends up its flower stalks in spring, it often causes the tips of the leaves to brown. This is a natural occurrence. If you don’t want this to happen, simply remove the flower stalks as soon as they start to grow to prevent leaf tip browning.

Notice:

Low light and excessive moisture will cause soft, floppy, non-curly leaves. Albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ does best in full sun to keep the curls compact and green. Place the plant at a well ventilated spot where the plant can receive as much bright light as possible. You can also purchase grow lights if you live in cold area and can't afford leaving the plant outdoor. It's a winter grower, so if you keep it indoor, the heat may trigger the plant to think that summer has come and cause the plant to go dormant.

* Minimalist Pot Options: White/ Oatmeal/ Gray colors are randomly picked

* Grower pot option is plastic pot, the color of the plastic pot will be random (brown, black, white or green)

Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.

I live in southern Florida where the temperature rarely drops to 50 degrees (maybe 1-2 nights a year), Will I be able to grow this plant outdoors? Temperatures often are in the high 80s to low 90s during the day. Do I understand that this plant dies back each year when it is allowed to bloom?

Hello Denise,

The weather has an effect on the curled leaf tips of this succulent. It can’t stand high temperatures, so keep it between 60°F and 75°F (15.5°C and 23.8°C). When the weather is dry and cold, the leaves curl tightly; if you live in a cold place and cannot afford to keep the plant outside, you should buy in grow lights. When Albuca 'Frizzle Sizzle' sends up its flower stalks in the spring, the tops of the leaves often brown and die. This is an entirely natural occurrence. To prevent this, just cut the flower stalks as soon as they begin to grow to prevent leaf tip browning.
