  •   Albuca Spiralis, also called Frizzle Sizzle, is a rare bulb succulent native to the Western Cape of South Africa, where it grows in rocky, well-drained soils. This collector plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family and features one-of-a-kind architectural form.

The tightly coiled, corkscrew-shaped leaves spiral dramatically upward in forest green, visible instantly. The slender, ribbon-like foliage curls more intensely in bright light, creating a sculptural silhouette on a shelf or windowsill. No two plants curl exactly alike.

Albuca Spiralis produces yellow-green, nodding flowers on tall upright stalks, typically blooming in late winter to spring with a sweet, vanilla-like fragrance. Blooms appear once a year and are triggered by cooler night temperatures. After flowering, the plant naturally enters summer dormancy, which is completely normal behavior for this bulb succulent.

Albuca Spiralis grows upright and stays compact. Move it outside in summer as long as it is sheltered from heavy rain.

  •   Frizzle Sizzle Albuca Spiralis grows in bright indirect light and should be rotated regularly for even, symmetrical curl development.

Water it every 10-14 days during the growing season, reducing to almost nothing during summer dormancy.

Albuca Spiralis performs best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite for excellent drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 50-75°F and needs a cool night temperature drop in winter to trigger blooming.

Albuca Spiralis is a slow grower that benefits from a light balanced fertilizer once a month during the active fall-to-spring growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating brief dips no lower than around 25°F before needing frost protection. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal Oregon. Growers in warm pockets across New Mexico, Arkansas, and North Carolina may also succeed in zone 9 microclimates with proper shelter during cold snaps.

Please Note: The dormant Frizzle Sizzle Albuca Spiralis is a winter-growing bulb that naturally enters dormancy during the summer. As part of its normal growth cycle, the leaves may yellow, develop brown tips, or die back completely after blooming, leaving only the dormant bulb. During this resting period, keep the bulb dry and resume watering when new leaves emerge in the fall.

These seasonal changes are completely normal and do not indicate that the plant is unhealthy. Our Return Policy: Returns, replacements, or refunds will not be accepted for normal dormancy-related conditions, including brown leaf tips, yellowing, or missing leaves.

  • Q: How often should I water Frizzle Sizzle Albuca Spiralis during the growing season?
A: Let the soil dry completely between waterings to prevent bulb rot. Once summer dormancy begins, cut back sharply or stop watering entirely until new growth appears in fall.

Q: Is it safe around cats and dogs?
A: Frizzle Sizzle Albuca Spiralis should be kept on a high shelf out of reach of pets and small children, as it should not be nibbled or eaten.

Q: Why are the leaves on Albuca Spiralis turning yellow?
A: Yellowing leaves are most commonly caused by overwatering or by the plant entering its natural summer dormancy cycle. Check soil moisture and adjust your watering schedule accordingly.

Q: How do I get blooms to appear?
A: Albuca Spiralis needs a consistent drop in nighttime temperatures during fall and winter to initiate its flowering cycle. Keep it away from heating vents or AC airflow, which can disrupt the temperature cues required to set buds.

Q: How do I propagate Frizzle Sizzle?
A: Divide offsets, or pups, from the mother bulb during repotting in early fall for the most reliable results. Seeds are also an option but take considerably longer to produce a display-worthy plant.

Q: Is this plant actually rare and hard to find?
A: Frizzle Sizzle is considered a rare collector find and is not commonly stocked in big-box garden centers. Its corkscrew foliage and fragrant blooms make it sought after among plant enthusiasts.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
