  •   Variegated Trailing Hoya Kerrii Heart is a rare, semi-succulent vining plant in the Apocynaceae family, native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Unlike the single-leaf cutting sold as a novelty, this is the true trailing form that actually grows and vines, making it a genuine collector plant for those seeking something beyond the mass-produced heart cutting.

The leaves are small and heart-shaped with creamy white and forest green variegation, each one appearing almost hand-painted. The foliage is thick and waxy with a semi-succulent texture, and as the vines lengthen, it develops a trailing cascade of growth. No two leaves are identical, so every plant is one-of-a-kind. Hoya Kerrii Variegated grows slowly, building its vine structure over time rather than racing across a shelf.

Mature, well-established vines can occasionally produce small, star-shaped, porcelain-like flower clusters with a light, sweet fragrance. Blooming is rare indoors and typically requires the plant to be root-bound, fully mature, and given a slight nighttime temperature drop. If your plant skips flowering for years, the variegated trailing foliage remains the primary visual focus.

It is pet-safe, non-toxic to cats and dogs, and also purifies indoor air by filtering formaldehyde and other toxins while releasing oxygen at night. Display it in a hanging basket, set it on a high shelf, or place it near kitchen humidity where it grows well. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered, rain-protected spot for a growth boost, and bring it indoors before temperatures drop below 55°F. It appreciates stability and dislikes being relocated frequently.

  •   Variegated Trailing Hoya Kerrii Heart grows well in bright indirect light and scorches in harsh south-facing direct sun.

Water it thoroughly every 10 to 14 days, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

Hoya Kerrii Variegated does best in a fast-draining mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark in equal parts.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 85°F and must be kept away from AC vents and heater drafts.

Hoya Kerrii Variegated is a slow to moderate grower; feed it monthly with balanced liquid fertilizer during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, tolerating no frost and requiring a minimum safe temperature around 50°F. It grows outdoors year-round in sheltered, humid microclimates in Hawaii, southern Florida, coastal Southern California, and the southernmost tips of Texas and Arizona. It can be grown outside during warm months in states like Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and Nevada, but must be brought indoors before any cold snaps arrive.
  • Q: Is Variegated Trailing Hoya Kerrii Heart safe for cats and dogs?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it safe for any household.

Q: What window placement works best for this plant?
A: Variegated Trailing Hoya Kerrii Heart performs well in east or west-facing windows; south-facing placement risks leaf scorch on the variegated foliage.

Q: How fast does Hoya Kerrii Variegated grow?
A: It is a slow to moderate grower, so patience is essential; the variegated form grows more slowly than the all-green species.

Q: Why are the leaves on my plant turning yellow?
A: Yellow leaves are most often caused by overwatering or poor drainage; Hoya Kerrii Variegated requires soil to dry fully between waterings and a pot with drainage holes.

Q: Can Hoya Kerrii Variegated be propagated?
A: Take a stem cutting with at least one node and one or two leaves, let it callous briefly, then root it in moist sphagnum moss or water; highly variegated cuttings may root more slowly.

Q: Can this plant live outdoors in summer?
A: Hoya Kerrii Variegated loves a warm, humid summer outdoors in a bright but sheltered spot, as long as it is protected from heavy rain and brought back inside before temperatures drop below 55°F.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
